Towing in a couple of weeks
So I will be towing about 4-5000 lbs(car trailer and rock crawler) at the end of the month... Was wondering if there is anything I am forgetting in preparation for it... Got brake controller box, added another transmission cooler (dont have time for the trans temp gauge), down graded to 35x12.5 instead of the 37x13.5 (still trying to find 33's if i can).. its not a long trip, maybe 300-350 miles round trip... This might be a dumb question but should I change my programmer to the towing settings??? Also is there anything I have maybe forgotten, that I should do before the trip begins???
change your programmer to the towing setting if you can, and tow with O/D off. Make sure your brake box functions properly and take time to properlly set the brakes on the trailer. Are your tires rated for towing?
How fresh are your trans and diff fluids? If your close to the recommended change interval (30k) I would go ahead and get that taken care of before the trip.
other than that, switch to your tow tune a couple days before the trip for the computer to do a little re-learning, check your brake booster and tires, and drive safe!

Trans fluid is pretty fresh, I think diff fluid is too(i think), im trying to have my 4.56 gears installed before hand, so i will have new fluid in there after that... Tires are good to tow.. Thanks for the input fellas
Your fine! I towed my toy hauler with a GVWR of 10k pounds and it did fine, they motor had to wind out but it wasn't too bad climbing the cajon pass I15 mountain. All i have is a brake controller and airbags. Just don't be afraid to let the motor rev up to 3500 rpms for a long time up hills and make sure you have your wallet full of gas money ready.

Where do you live? I am about 40 miles from the Cajon pass.

You should be fine for your tow. Im getting ready for one myself going to go from great lakes il to vrgina beach for my next duty station. Good thing a geat a dislocation allowance.....even though its gonna all go in my gas tank.
Isn't there a "break in period" you have to go by before doing any towing or hard driving after a gear install? If so, you will want to make sure you are outside of that preiod before towing like that to avoid voiding any warranty that comes with your install.
Oh cool. I was just down in Huntington today. Had a day off and decided to go to the beach. BAD idea, it was windy and cold.
Anyway, sorry for getting off topic. Yes there is generally a break-in recommendation for some gears to be properly heated and cooled to harden the teeth, but some gear manufacturers say that it is irrelevant.
