U Joint DYI video and photo write-up
DIY Dodge Ram 2500 rear driveshaft U joints replacement.
I replaced both the U joints in order to fix a vibration problem.
Truck vibrates between 25-50mph when I press on the gas only. The truck runs smooth as soon as I let go of the gas paddle.
I have gotten many opinions on this, but the most firm and trusted one was from the Dodge parts supervisor. I took his words and went to work.
I have a quick YouTube video (no captions)

Or a step-by-step photo write-up (62 photos) of this project.

I hope this will help you if you are thinking about doing this yourself.
Best. Enjoy.

Yes, changing the rear shaft U joints got rid of the vibrations completely.
Once the shaft was off the truck, I was able to pin point the play/vibration source. It was coming from the the U joint on the end that connects to the transmission. One of the cup for the U joint had a little play.
I was amazed by the different opinions I've gotten. Not surprising since it could be a number of things. The parts supervisor at Dodge dealer nailed it when I talked to him. Another sales person thought it was the spark plugs, but I had just changed the plugs and it didn't help. Then the supervisor poked his head out and said "rear driveshaft U joints". He knew exactly because he just fixed his 2005 Ram with the same problem. He used OEM U joints, but I told him I would use Spicer joints. He knew that was the right thing to do. He's common was . . . well, I use OEM because I work here.
Good luck friends.

Where did you get the Spicer joints? Ive already changed my joints when I bought the truck with Federal Mogul brand from Napa. Have been hearing good things about Spicer and want to try them when the ones on my wifes F150 go but I havent found where to buy them, at least locally.
Ordered it online.
No local places for me neither.
Google 8 lug truck gear
George is the man there. He was very helpful and shipping was only 2 days.
I bought the Napa ones also, then read so much great reviews/opinions on the Spicer's.
Best.

Tccards500, My profile picture shows my old 2001 Ram. My current ride is a 2004 Ram 2500 quard. The u-joint job was done on the '04 truck, and your 1500 should be exactly the same. Good luck.
