I wouldn't disconnect the compressor unless you actually need to. The entire refrigerant charge has to be sucked down first before you open the system.

Thanks HemiLonestar. Im sure I can pull the motor without touching the A/C. We pulled the pan last night. The pickup tube was plugged bad. From what I can see there is no cracks or broken rods. I did however find a chunk of what feels like aluminum. It is contoured and seems to be painted black. Can anyone tell what it might be from.
I put in a pic of the hood for fun,,

Well its been awhile, but it looks like we found the problem....and were the mysterious piece came from. We pulled the passenger side valve cover off and found that the cam bearing caps basically overheated and seized causing them to break. The cam basically jumped out of the cradle. The oil pickup tube was totally plugged, so my guess it wasnt getting oil to the top end.
Anyone have any suggestions. Can aluminum heads be saved...

Aluminum heads CAN be saved, but you have to know what you're doing welding wise and then it has to be remachined. I think you would be better off with good rebuilds. Top a good set of freshened heads on a rebuilt short block and you should be good to go again. Now would be the time to start looking at performance parts if you're going to do them since you have the engine out and soon to be apart.

Yeah, at that extent of damage I would replace the heads

I agree, find a set of reworked heads ready to go. A local machine shop may have some available.
