New oils from Royal Purple coming this summer
Royal Purple announces the release of their new 0W-20 motor oil. The introduction of this viscosity was prompted by Toyota and Honda recommending zero weight synthetic motor oil for a growing number of new models. Lower viscosity oils are used to help improve fuel economy.
Royal Purple 0W-20 exceeds industry standards and is an American Petroleum Institute (API) SN licensed motor oil. It provides distinct performance advantages.
• Synthetic defense against wear - Superior additive technology decreases metal-to-metal contact and exceeds the wear protection requirements of both dexos1™ and International Lubricant Standardization and Approval Committee (ILSAC) GF-5 specs.
• Optimized fuel efficiency and ethanol compatibility – Its low coefficient of friction results in greater fuel efficiency. It also offers improved compatibility with fuels containing ethanol. Advanced additive technologies prevent white sludge and lubrication starvation that can occur with ethanol fuel, even at levels of 20% or higher.
• Extended emissions protection - Patented ZDDP additive technology optimizes catalytic converter life.
• Maximum corrosion protection - No rust was observed in standard industry corrosion tests.
Royal Purple SAE 0W-20 will be available at performance retailers this summer. Royal Purple recommends using their premium synthetic oil filter with the new 0W-20 for maximum protection against contamination.

It looks like they are going to sort of go down the road Amsoil has by offering current API certified oils for vehicles under warranty and then they will have a different line or two for vehicles without warranty concerns. This is a departure from their stance the last few years where they refused to reformulate their SL oils to meet API SM saying SL was superior to SM and that their target market is not new vehicle owners anyway. Something changed.
They will still offer their XPR racing formula I am sure but will start offering a new "High Performance Street" oil this summer as well. I am wondering if the new HPS oils are their current API SL oils just renamed? Anyway, if you are an RP fan like me there are a lot of changes coming this summer with their oil lineup.
The "new" HPS and the new 0W-20 SN/Starburst...

While I am sure most know what I meant for those who don't...
When I mention the Starburst I am referring to the API Starburst symbol. For an oil to carry it the oil must be certified to the current highest API service level( now SN )as well as meet certain fuel economy and emissions standards. Every new car mfg selling cars in the US anyway requires the oil you use to carry the Starburst for warranty purposes.
An oil can be API certified and not carry the Starburst however. Either it is certified to an older service level that is still in service( i.e. SJ, SL, SM, etc )or it does not meet the fuel economy or emissions standards required for the current service level but it meets everything else so it will just be certified to the service level. The point is not all oils can carry the Starburst.
When that happens the oil will carry the API Donut( please no jokes - this is serious - to me anyway )symbol only and it is on the back of the bottle. The Starburst symbol goes on the front of the bottle. This is actually a big deal for people with 2005+ vehicles under warranty that wish to run Royal Purple. Their oils but for just 2-3 newer weights have only been certified to API service level SL for a LONG time.

hmm ill be buying some too. Even though I just bought a few cases when that good deal was going on
