2007 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 Sport Hemi
Well guys I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on this rig....but I need to know the good, the bad and the ugly on these trucks, been a Chev guy for years and need some insight before I lay down some coin on this rig.
btw its only got 50,000km on it and very clean.
lets hear it......

What engine does it have? The 4.7L and 5.7L are both good engines. The 5.7L is the better of the two as far as power goes. The gas mileage is close to the same on both.
I would check the front end for play. Ball joints and tie rod ends. This seems to be a weak point on all brands of trucks these days. It's probably fine. Not sure how km translates into miles, but the spark plugs get changed every 30K so they are probably close to being due. I am quite happy with my 08.
I would run it thru the paces. Make sure the transfer case goes into 4wd and 4wd low like it should. Pop the rubber plug out of the rear differential cover and check the fluid. It should be clean.
And make sure the a/c, heat all works properly. occasionally there are blend door issues in the ductwork. Another issue that isn't Dodge exclusive.
These are just things that are known issues but not anything to fret over. Especially at that low mileage.

Bought my 07 2 years ago...no probs whatsoever and had roughy 45km on it as well. Changed the differential fluids right away and the plugs just for routine maintenance. The left front did have a little play in it. Tie rod was getting slightly worn...changed both out and had an alignment. Other than that...lovin it.
Thx for the info lxman1,i got a copy of previous warranty claims and it looks like it had catalytic problems/replacement?...some kind of pcm update/replacement?....tierods replaced....sunroof update/programming?
Is this stuff normal warranty complaints or was the previous owner ****??

i haven't heard of any catalytic converter issues with these trucks. PCM updates are kinda routine during a troubleshooting process. Like said before, check out the front end components, I've been through inner and outer tie rods and lower ball joints before I've hit 50k. Crawl underneath and check seals at the transfer case, pinion seals, etc. Some people get leaks, not brand specific again. You may notice valve train clattering/ticking, this is common with the hemis but doesn't seem to pose any serious reason for concern - kinda similar to chevy piston slap.
Other than that check for normal truck rust spots - wheel wells, under bed, bottom of tailgate, etc. The hemis have been very reliable and so have the 545rfe transmissions. Positives for the dodge are the power. I get better gas mileage than anyone i've talked to with fords/chevys with lesser power.
Word of advice is if you plan on messing with headers check out the condition of the exhaust manifold bolts, which are actually covered under warranty if it's got it.
Other than that check for squeaks/creaks when driving it, i've noticed sometimes the factory leaves some things a little loose on the interiors. (My truck actually had change rattling in the dash when I got it, first owner must've not been the brightest in where they put their toll money...)

running kinda rough at stop lights is often the result of a dirty EGR valve. Real cylinder missfires will fire a CEL for spark plug/coil pack/injector issue.

Hey popdog, thx for the headsup....supposedly the egr valve was changed the day before I roadtested this rig,he said it set an egr code and they replaced it.I told him it was missing just off idle or u could manipulate it by loading it up around 1000rpm,said he would look into it before I made any decisions....still waiting for his remedy!!!!
welli bought my truck used put 30k on it in 2 years this whats i have replaced front struts both sides tire rods both on both sides twice if i knew that the front end was so weak i would have bought a 2500 instead.and i dont go offroad much mostly daily driver to work and back.as i said to all my buddies last time i buy a half tone i swear the truck are getting more car oriented in the way of how weak a almost 6 thousand pound truck your think how tough it should be..
