So am I burning oil?
Last year, at about 70k miles, I changed from conventional oil to full synthetic pennzoil ultimate. A couple of months ago, I reported on this website that I went to change my oil and found that I only got about 4 quarts to come out of the truck including the filter. Several people responded that they had seen some increased oil consumption after switching to synthetic but it seemed to normalize over time. I've put on about 4k miles since changing it. When I changed it, I made darn sure it was full and have been checking for leaks or drip spots ever since. I checked it a couple of times after changing it and it seemed to be holding up okay as far as the level goes. It has probably been a couple thousand miles since I last checked it as I've had a couple of lengthy road trips. This morning, when I checked, it was just even with the word "add" on the dipstick. Added exactly 1 quart and it's back to the normal level.
So, if I had signicant oil loss last time, without ever seeing any signs of leaks or smelling of any burning oil, and this time I seem to have only lost about a quart, again not seeing any signs of leakage or smelling any burning oil, am I still experiencing the synthetic swap, disappearing oil phenomenon, and it's slowly getting a little better, or am I more likely burning it off slowly - perhaps even slowly enough that I would not smell it?

I think mine is burning to cause it don't leak and I don't smell it etheir. I also use the pennzoil ultra synthetic but I never heard of the using more when first using also it's my 3rd oil change so don't think its that but I really don't care Brecause Its still under Warrenty just havint got the time to get it check out
Well mine doesn't seem to be going through it as fast as it did last time. Unless it starts really going away after x number of miles and I just haven't gotten there yet. The thing where it uses a lot after switching over and then the issue goes away doesn't seem logical to me, either, but I did have a couple of guys report that when I posted about it before. I mean, it doesn't drink the stuff. It has to burn it off or leak it out, right? It can't just disappear - especially several quarts at a time. I've never seen any smoke at startup, I've never smelled any burning, and I've never seen a sign of a leak.
my 4.7 burns oil before and after it was rebuilt and my moms 09 dakota with the 4.7 burns a quart in a 1k miles took it to the dealer they changed the oil and said bring it back in 1k miles didnt seem like they was to worried about it kinda like they know they burn oil
