Default Camshaft Decision

I'm going to be doing a cam swap here soon, but I'm in between two different cams. I'm thinking about the Spartan or the Comp 268. My truck is a Quad Cab 4x4, I wanted to see what other guys with the same truck's opinions are. I'd like it to sound good but I am more concerned about performance, especially due to the weight of the truck. I'm also going to be installing LT's and a TCI torque converter, among other things, while I'm at it. Any insight is appreciated.

Big heavy QC go with the spartan. The 268 is a top end cam (have one in mine) and one of the downsides to it is that the lowend is basically the same as stock, it has a strong mid and top but not much of an improvement on lowend. To get your truck moving you need that lowend grunt.

Also going to need a new tuner to add to your list since both of those cams require a tune to run

Do you recommend getting a diablo w/ custom tune, or piggy-backing a SCT w/ custom tune?

Tuner decision may depend on your 04 build. Early 04's seem to have zero tranny and shift point options on the DSP which is why some resort to SC/SCT stacking. Mine was the case and my build is 11/2003. Just FYI.

If you can piggy back the sct with the superchips you should be good since you will have the trans adjustments with the SC. Just be sure to get the trans adjusted the way you like it and wont change it since I do not believe you can once you stack them.

The DSP on an 04' wont have the trans adjustments, so while its a nice tool you wont benefit from it nearly as much as what the 05's up will.

Thanks for the info, I'm leaning toward stacking it. I'll have to check when my truck was built. Is there date range I should know for the 2004's?

I would do the CompCams 260 over the 268 in the QC.
