Default New head unit......

So Ive got a bunch of parts to put a double din in to a 1.5 din location in the 06 ram 1500.....
But I dont know what head unit to choose to fit into that gap. IM mainly concerned about making all the speakers function properly with the factory 7 speaker system. GPS is also a must. IPOD/IPhone support also required.

Here is what I have so far.

Factory Nav dash Kit
...

Metra 99-6150 Install kit to replace factory nav.
Metra 40-CR10 Adapter for antenna
Axxess CHTO-01 Wiring kit

And as always cost is an issue but if its worth it then its going in the truck.
Ive done head units before and its always just making sure the right wire went to the right spot so cutting and soldering is not anything new to me. Also there is no sub yet... I just paid off the truck so that will be next and a custom sub box will be made. For now lets just focus on the head unit. Thanks for the help!!

I have no real input here, but your thread did get me thinking it might be time to upgrade from 8-track to cassette, after all we are a dozen years into the 21st century. I'm still hedging on if CDs are here to stay or not and I'd hate to have to re-buy the White Album AGAIN!!!

You mean the White Album actually came as an album?? LoL
I'm old enough to appreciate the 8-track, but only as something I'm glad did not stick around!

Ahhh...8 tracks. I was little, but I remember my parents having a ton of those. I specifically remember them having Boney M, and Abba!

In all seriousness, I got my license at 16 right at about when the world went from 8-track to cassette, but I had SO MUCH on 8-track that I installed one in my first car. The Jeep J10 4x4 pickup which was basically the "family use" vehicle already had a factory 8 track.

Wasn't long before I picked up a modular cassette deck for my home system and started converting my 8-tracks to cassette. I can remember being about 16 or 17 in the early-mid '80s and cashing my part-time job paycheck and running to the store for a 3 or 4 pack of TDK or Maxell blank cassettes.

I still have a dual cassette deck hooked up to my home stereo system, but I don't know why. I haven't owned a cassette in probably a dozen or so years now, LOL...

Wow maybe I got it all wrong... 8 tracks are the way to go then. Or I probably need to do more research on my own probably and talk to a local stereo shop.

What's so odd about that? I've had some serious systems in my vehicles over the years, hell I even worked about 9 months at a high end audio shop when I was in college, installing both auto and home systems, and when I talk home systems, I mean like recessing components in walls type systems.

Although I have to admit, I ain't in to it like I used to be. If I have a deck with around 50 watts or so that will do MP3s and a set of Polk or Boston Acoustic speakers in the vehicle then I'm a happy camper these days.

Oh and IOVMatrix, I guess I totally stole your thread. Sorry...

no hard feelings, I guess I usually think of you as the tire/suspension/lift guy. I used to be big into stereo's too, I actually had my own car autio business. But that time has passed and i no longer drop big $$ into my vehicles stereo.

OP sorry for the derail on your thread
my choices would probably be a Pioneer or Kenwood unit.

several options, not sure on your $$ range your shooting for

there may be cheaper places to get these, but this was just a quick sampling.
