Default Needing some opinions on some 4.7L headers

I have been wanting a set of headers for my truck for a while now. Just havent recieved enough information on them or had enough money. I want to know if it will be worth putting a set on my 4.7L? I do plan on installing a set of H.O. cams but will they still be worth getting? I have found a set of Chrome gibson's for $350. I honestly dont know how chrome is on headers but i'm guessing its not pretty after a few months. Or am i wrong? Should i even get a set if so should i shoot for something other than the chrome ones? Let me know. Thanks

You really want ceramic coated headers. Not only does the ceramic keep looking like new and inhibits rust formation, but it shields the exhaust gas temps from heating up the engine compartment and shuttles the heat out the tailpipe with the gases.

Yeah i was looking at the ceramic too. Kinda out of my budget at the moment. I was just curious if they were even worth the cost.

Wait and save up then. Black painted headers on average last anywhere from one to three years, chrome can be more like three to five, ceramic should last as long as you own the truck, plus of course the above mentioned performance advantages...

Thanks Hammer! It will actually be sooner than i thought. I found a site with a brand new straight from the factory set of Gibson Stainless Ceramics for $394.27 free shipping. I couldnt believe the price because they usually go for $550+.. I emailed them to confirm the price and free shipping and they said it was correct. I'm going through my finances for the month and its looking like i may just ****** those up tonight. The site was www.ultrarev.com.

and here is the link to the actual headers. http://www.ultrarev.com/gp316s-c.html

That's an awesome price. I bought my Pacesetter LTs in stainless damn near 6 years ago and had a local shop ceramic coat them and had over $600 in mine then!

Just make sure to get a good gasket, don't use the locking bolts and heat them up real hot and re-torque them after you install them and you'll be good to go...

Wow that is a good bit. So are the oem Mopar gaskets still a good choice? and for bolts what would be a good set?

Yeah, the Mopar gasket is just fine. I used the cheesy cardboard one came with the Pacesetters. I figured I could always replace it with a better one. Amazingly, it's still holding up (probably because I check the bolts often and keep them tight).

As far as the bolts go, I used the ones came with the headers. I was going to buy a set of the locking bolts from Moe's so I wouldn't have to mess with keeping them tight, but a friend at my local performance shop told me that's a no-no with aluminum blocks. The vibration of the road will hit the weakest link, and if the bolts are locked in place and can't give (loosen) then it would be the threads that would go out. Easier to check and tighten bolts a couple times a year than it is to re-thread the block...
