Personally, I would stay far away from flowmasters. They drone like crazy in our trucks and they have a horrible flow rating. Less flow - less power.

Magnaflow produces a good sound without the "tin can" effect. Not relative to your application but here's the Maggie on my 02 4.7 liter:

I put the 3" si/so Spintech Sportsman XL on my truck and am VERY happy with it. I do like the sound of the Magnaflows on the 5.7 but, not to offend anyone here, I like to make mine a little different from everybody else's. I originally wanted to use an Aero Turbine in place of the muffler, but that would've cost money I wasn't sure I wanted to spend. I already had the Spintech from my '96 I just sold, so I went with it. I replaced the muffler, and eliminated the resonator and had the 3" tail pipe exit just under the bumper so it isn't easily seen. The rest of the system is stock. The best way to describe the sound is like some of the Mustangs with the awesome sounding exhaust. It has very similar pitch and tone that they do. It's not too loud, and at idle you can feel the bass outside of the truck but it sounds almost stock. When I "get on it" it gets louder and powerful sounding, but not so much as to be annoying. There is *******ly no drone except at around 1,700 rpm or so which isn't enough to even complain about at all. I think the muffler number is "3441xl", but I will need to check that to verify it.
EDIT: I just noticed that I need to update my signature with specs. My truck is 2005 1500 4x4 with 5.7 HEMI.

I started with a SIDO Flowmaster Delta 40 and liked it but when I did my dual 4" round Magnaflows I liked them a lot more

Not to jump the thread but I have a 4.7l and I would love to have that muscle car sound. I'm not 20 anymore and I am not looking for that window rattling sound just that "strong" sound you really don't notice untill you get into it a little. Don't want to go with duals either just cant afford that right now. Can this be accomplished with just a muffler swap?

If you're swapping your muffler, you'll want to take out that "Y" pipe as well, since it's very restrictive. My di/do system cost $215, all inclusive. That's new pipe from the cats all the way to the tips in front of the rear tire, and it's a true dual system since there's an "X" in the muffler. If you don't want super loud, but you want deep, try the 16" maganflow or cherry bomb. Both flow well, and both sound great.
