Had a DMH on mine for a long time then took it off after the headers, then added a raceland cutout after the cam.

I think it sounds pretty good

since you had one I want to ask you. this thing seems to be no more then a throttle body hooked up to a switch. is there a way to just do this yourself?

Probably, but the raceland was only $90 when I picked mine up on sale, usually $100, with free shipping, so not to expensive. Easy to install via clamps or welding it in and wiring is a breeze. I wouldnt waste the time to fab your own unless you just was to do the bolt on plate, more of the old school cutout than the electric one. That could be fabbed up real easy.
