Default What's under the "leather" steering wheel wrap?

The leather (or whatever it is) steering wheel wrap on my '04 is falling apart. It comes off on my hands and pants whenever the humidity is high. I put a cover on there but I don't really like it. What's under this leather wrap? If it's a base model, color matched, base model rubber steering wheel then I think I will just cut the leather off. If it's some kind of "special" wheel that's made to be covered in leather then I guess I will continue to rock the cover.

Just a steel ring I think.

I would've thought that under the leather was a regular vinyl cover.

I made an exploratory cut with a razor under where the aftermarket cover would hide it. I found out that there's a hard white plastic ring under the leather. So, no base model rubber/vinyl wheel. I ended up grabbing a Dodge branded leather cover for it at AutoZone
