Default HID Problems

hey, just installed new headlights and a Notto 10000k Hid kit. Had a hell of a time wiring them in, when installed regularly they would pulse as if the truck thought the bulb was burnt out. I read a bit into it and realized its a very common problem.

So instead we wired them up a little differently. Now they work, but i just took my truck for a drive for the first time at night since the install. My HID's are no where near as bright as my high beams. They seem pretty blue, but i can only see like 20 ft in front of me, as my high beams give me like 50 at least. Any idea what could be causing this? Is it just the 10k color? Possibly the headlight lens or something? Im boggled, and more than a little dissipointed. Anythink ya guys suggest i could try to fix this issue? Thanks!

I think 10K is way too high. I'm thinking 6K is better for actually seeing. It may also be how they are sitting in the chrome bucket of the housing, but I've never installed them. Maybe pm dirtydog. He put some in his 08.

I'll stick to my $40 Silverstars, they are plenty bright enough for me

4300k is the brightest and OEM temp. Go higher and you begin to lose light. 6k loses 15% light compared to 5k. 8k loses 15% more light than 6k. 10k loses roughly 40% light as compared to 5k.
Basically, blue light is useless. So, the more blue the color, the less output you will have. Plus, 8k+temps are cop magnets.

Damn, i knew about the visible light loss. But i didnt realize it was that extreme at 10k.

Although, I still feel like they should be brighter than they are. Am i just losing all the light from the high temp? Because i can see 10x farther with my regular high beams compared to my HID's. I wouldnt even feel comfortable driving with just my HID's on the highway, i can barely see 20ft in front of me

If you haven't already try adjusting your headlights and aiming them down a little bit before you do anything else, it might help.

I'm not sure about those headlights, but the stock headlights and the ones I have are both very easy to adjust, all it takes is a phillips-head screwdriver and popping the hood open.
