i read the DIY on this a bout 10 times before i convinced myself to do it, very time consuming and you have to have patience, i had to re-heat the first light 3 times before successfully separating it, the second light i did in one try. did a few coats of gloss black krylon and used VHT night shades on the reflector's and then RTV sealed them back up i think they came out very well for my first time doing this, very pleased with the look. I really appreciate the DIY that Matt99 wrote up, followed it step by step and they came out fantastic.

 

I've been wanting to do that for a-long time,I even practiced on a broken headlight i got from work.looks great,I hope to do mine soon...

Nice job! Only problem is....Can you pass inspection without a sidemarker reflector? I kept mine and just VHT'd it because I would fail inspection without one. Not sure how those 'Eh people are??...lol


psst...I had to reheat Both of mine 3 times too. Easiest way was to actually cut the seal just before prying apart. It would def be easier with two sets of hands because it's hard to hold it apart without it resealing itself as the sealer hardens back up when cooling(which is lighning fast)...PIA

 

thanks guys, yea i used vht night shades on the side markers made them pretty dark but light still shines through the signal portion of it..not sure where you live but in ontario you dont need a yearly or anything unless your comercial, so you only need a safety inspection when you change ownership..and this truck aint going anywhere any time soon, i like it to much. im sure cops could hassle me but i dont speed and drive like a *** so im not to worried, when i had my jeep i had all amber markers blacked right out and it was straight piped(had to hear that 5.9) and never got hassled.

and yes a extra set of hands dose come in handy, i had my sister using her blow dryer on hi to keep the plastic warm while i pried the housing apart, a heat gun would have worked allot better but i didnt have one at the house. only piece of advice that i give to people who haven't done it yet and want to is have ALLOT of patience and make sure that you leave the head lights in for the full 10 minutes to insure the sealant and the plastic is soft enough or you will give your self a head ache. i was worried at first about the lens going cloudy but never had a issue with that

Yeah that looks super good! I'd do mine but the lenses have clouded and yellowed all the way through, so I'll be buying new ones already blacked out.
