RPM Fluctuation at 55 to 60 mph
I have a 08 Ram 1500 4x4 with the 5.7 engine. I have a engine rpm fluctuation problem while driving at 55 to 60 mph. The tach jumps from 1600 rpm to 1800 or 1900, then back to 1600 for a while. It doesn't do it all the time but enough to iratate ya. I took it in to the dealership and they told me it was a reported issue with this year truck. They told me there was nothing wrong with the trans and I drive the truck to easy. They told me to power out of the issue. Well I tried it and it still does it. Any suggestions??
That is the MDS kicking in and out. Quite normal. When it jumps up a couple hundred rpm, the MDS is on.
Put it in tow/haul mode and it will quit. That locks out 5th gear, MDS and delays 2-3 and 3-4 shifts.

Thanks, that is exactly what I have done when it starts bouncing up and down in rpm. I was very worried about the tranny slipping or the shifting in and out would damage the tranny. You are the second one to tell me all is Ok.
Mine is a Blue 08 RAm 1500 Big Horn with a body color matching cap.

Thats exactly what mine was doing at first, then two separate times last week my tranny starting slipping pretty bad. Its under warranty so Im taking it into the shop next week. If there is an issue going on, Id look towards your transmission.
I have a similar issue with my 07 1500 4.7flex. While i am at highway speed, it almost feels like it can not make up its mind which gear it wants to be in. the tach jumps a little then settles down. in addition is when i slow down it sometime hits kind of hard back in 1st. not all the time just once in a while. Was thinking of changing fluid and filters, possible band adjustment? Is this the right course of action? I have almost 86k on the truck, orginal fluid and filter.
