Default lift kit questions?

as you can see in my sig i drive an 06 dodge ram 1500 4x4 quadcab. It has a 6" pro comp lift on it already but i want to add a lift to it. Just something something small like 2-2.5". Is this possible and what is the best way to do it? and do you guys think that with an 8-8.5" total lift on it that 20" rockstars with 35" tires will look too small for the truck?

Yeah, I think 35s on 8-8.5" of lift will look smallish since on a 1500 Ram you only need a 2" level to clear 35s. Besides, you have an IFS truck with little, spindly CV shafts instead of a solid steel axle up front. You'll bust CVs at that height (many have with just the 6" and 35s), wear out tie rods & ball joints and probably be replacing the rack & pinion relatively quickly (at over $1000 a pop).

If you want to be in the 8" of lift range, either buy a 2 wheel drive truck or get you a SFA 2500 truck.

Another thing you might want to think about is just how much sidewall you'll have with 35" tires on 20" RockStars. I used to tournament bass fish all through Ga, Al, SC and Tenn and have hung with some Guntersville boys. Where them boys go off road you'd be better with 35s on 17s where you can air down and have some sidewall flex and a bigger footprint off road.

Of course, if you're a pavement queen, the 20s will use a bit more gas, but you'll be fine...

what about 22" rockstars with 37" tires?

with the additonal 2 inch lift, (essentially making it lifted 8 inches with 37" tires and 22" wheels)

Do you really need to ask??? If 35s are going to be a LOT of stress on the front, how much do you think going to 37s on even heavier wheels is going to be? Go get under your truck and look at the size of the CV half shafts and how they are in diameter to the SOLID AXLE in the back of your truck.

These shafts are not very strong and WEAKEN CONSIDERABLY as the angle they are forced to work increases and with the weight of the tire/wheel combination that are placed on them. Personally, I feel 6" of lift and 35" tires is the limit on an IFS truck.

Sounds to me like you bought the wrong truck for what you want to do with it. There are reasons why a 2500 series truck comes with a solid axle in the front that is the same diameter of the solid axle in the rear of your 1500 series truck (and has an even larger solid axle in the rear).

I'm just pointing out the limitations of the front end of an IFS truck and the problems you WILL experience. In the end it's your truck and your money, so do what you want to it...

That's no problem, I'm not trying to talk you out of doing mods to your truck to "make it your own", but I've had seven full size 4x4 trucks in my life, most of them with a lift of one kind or another, installed by me and know what you can and can't get away with as far as lift/tire size/wheel weight/ etc.

Do guys go over 6" on IFS trucks? Yep. Do guys put 37" tires on IFS trucks? Yep. Do ALL these guys have severe failures? Nope. But most who use their trucks for more than showing off at the mall parking lot do. Those who use their 4x4 to it's potential do for sure. Been there, done that and in my south Georgia hunting club with over 100 members, just about all who own lifted 4x4s, I see it - ALL THE TIME...

one last question, will the 24 x 12 Rockstars (http://www.streetdreams.org/wheels/r.../Matte%20Black) fit my 06 dodge ram 1500 quadcab 4x4?

I agree completely with hammer. I my self only have a leveled truck but it is soon to be lifted and there is no way I will go over 6in. I have several friends with lifted trucks and who have had several. As far as those wheels go do you REALLY want 24 inch wheels with 35 inch tires? Or even 37 inch tires if you want to wear sh*t out in a few miles? You will have ZERO side wall. You are going to fill every pot hole you go through and you will have zero flex off roading. Not to mention that you will have zero side wall to take the rocks and all that which tend to pop out and are going to be eating your wheels. Those wheels are going to be VERY HEAVY on a 1500 truck as well. Kiss some of your MPG good bye! Ofcourse if it`s a city truck that never touches the dirt and rocks you may be fine. Just my two cents. As hammer said its your truck and your money. Hammer is like THE MAN on here dude. I don`t want to give him the big head but I have learned SO much from him on here. His truck/off road wisdom is mind blowing so I would listen to him.

Good luck in what ever you decide and please post us some pictures so we can see the end product.
