Default My 2004 hemi vs. A 2000 & 2003 f150 5.4! Can I win?

The 2003 is a 4 door with a 5.4. I've drove this truck. It's a older guy I work with. It's heavier then my truck but felt pretty quick.

The second is a 2000 f150 single cab 5.4. It's got to be lighter. It's on 20 inch wheels with a programmer and exhaust. It's the first guys sons truck.

They've both been talkin smack about my 2004 hemi worktruck. 5 so auto 3.55s. Bone stock single cab short bed. I known can get the 2001 4dr. Think the 2000 single cab would be closer. Both fords have a lot more miles then my dodge.

The 5.4L, even in the F150's, is set up to be a work horse/tow rig so all it's power comes early and then it is done. Even with some performance mod's I would not fear a 5.4L Ford if you have a HEMI( even stock ). Now, if you are talking a S/C Lightning or Harley Davidson F150 w/ the 5.4L that is different. They will hand you your *** on a silver platter. Regular 5.4L though is a dog( race wise ). I would want it over the HEMI if towing/hauling though.

PS - if you do decide to race be smart and legal and go to a track. No street racing! Only fools and criminals street race.

Yea the 5.4 is a paper weight and that is about it. Good motor but needs it's power band adjusted and tweaked but still not much power to be had compared to the HEMI

I made a couple thousand passes at the track in various other drag cars. But we will find a nice empty road out here in the middle of nowhere. Don't worry not my first rodeo. I believe I will win easily from a roll. Usually spin a good bit from a stop though. I've beaten several newer fords. The 2003 5.4 made 260hp & 350tq. The 2004 5.7 hemi made 345hp377tq. So I should have a decent advantage. Wieght is also a big factor though.

I am not just making up my opinion either. My truck before my Hemi was an 01 F150 5.4L Lariat. Nice truck, sure... but was gutless and accelerated like a geo metro. The Hemi is a better all around engine, even towing my Hemi far outperforms my old 5.4L. Here is my old Ford pulling my TT. The Dodge tows this same trailer with ease, although I am considering air bags in the future. FWIW the Tahoe trailer is 27ft with a slide out. 6400 lbs. dry, 8300 lbs. loaded. In this picture, the truck also had a quad and quite a bit of fire wood in the bed.

Your 3.55s will make it closer than it has to be vs. the single cab. You'll still murder the 4 door. I haven't lost to any naturally aspirated Ford. I do pretty well vs. chipped 7.3 Powerstrokes till they bolt on more than the basics. The 6.0s and newer can run 14.0s on just programming so that's out of my ballpark for sure.

With the 5.0 going into the new F150 it looks like we'll need a bigger boat or at least a 4th gen Ram. I still think a torque converter would work wonders for power delivery for the 3rd gens though.
