I LIKE the MDS!
I have an 07 4x2 Hemi Quad Cab, and I LIKE the MDS.
If I keep it around 61mph, I can get 24mpg (hand calculated) on flat highway trips.
In realistic driving, with hills, and driving 65 and up to 70, I will get almost 22mpg.
When I rented a 4.7, the milage wasnt nearly as good.
It doesnt make any noise or do anything funny with the stock driveline. And I can turn it off with tow/haul if I want.
Anyone else like the milage they are getting because of MDS? If it didnt have it, I would have a harder time justifying it as a daily driver.

I had an 07 with MDS on my 1500. I had it for a 4 year lease and was ready to return it after a year. The MDS was so irritating, it created a 'pulsing rumble' in the cab when it engaged. I never saw great fuel mileage from the truck, possibly because I was trying to avoid the rumble.
In year number 3 of the 4 year lease, I parked it. I bought a 06 3500 Cummins (Sig Truck) and have never been happier. It regularly gets 18-19mpg empty. The best mileage I ever saw was 14-15mpg. When I towed my 4500lb travel trailer I was lucky to see 9mpg.
A terrible system in my opinion.
Now, I was at the body shop the other day, and saw a chev with a window sticker claiming 32mpg!!! I don't personally believe it, but if it even comes close, Dodge has a lot of catch up to do.

Wow, you had a bad experience with it.
No rumble in my truck, and I am sensitive to noises. That is not to say that the diff and trans do not have the occasional whine. But crusing down this highwy on MDS, the truck is < 2K rpm. Its possible to keep it in MDS te whole time if there are no hills and you keep it below 61 or so. Thats when you get 24mpg. But because of hills, driving faster, etc, get more like 22.
On trips up the hilly east coast, I have gotten almost 550miles from a 25gal fill up.

Ya... I've heard they've made some big improvements in the last couple years in how well it works. Maybe if I decide to downsize, I'll reconsider it, but a 1500 is too light of a truck for my plans, and well, GVW comes first imho...
I'm glad its working out and you guys are getting much better mileage than I was. It makes me feel good that possibly the 40+ visits to the dealership locally maybe gave them enough information to work with and make their changes. Maybe..

24 mpg at roughly 60 mph on the highway for a ******* 4x2 4-cylinder doesn't really sound all that great, to me, honestly. Granted, it's better than the (hand calculated) 18-19 mpg I'd get with the cruise set at 70 mph in a 2005 non-MDS QC 4x4 with 3" BL and 33" A/T tires on the interstates during cross-country trips. Not MUCH better, though. I've noticed (with help of a GPS for more accurate speedometer) that 70 mph keeps the tach right at 1900 rpm. Anything over 71 mph, and that's when I break 2K rpm, the exhaust gets obnoxious and annoying and my gas mileage plummets. If I were to drive around at 60 mph and even lower rpm, I'd LOVE to see what my gas mileage looks like.
I would really expect a 2WD with a more street setup, alone, such as lighter GW, lower stance and street-suited tires, would show better mpg numbers. I'm not trying to be a dick or burst your bubble, but, I honestly thought the MDS did better than that. Sixty miles-per-hour isn't even highway speed in most of the USA.
*EDIT* I have no idea what that word was that the auto-edit decided to star out, but it was nothing bad, obscene or derogatory. I really have no idea?
*EDIT**EDIT* The word was v-i-r-t-u-a-l. No idea why that is being censored.

Wow. I do not know or understand what the MDS is or does but I know now that "Sookie" ( my truck ) has alot of explaining to do. It's a 4.7 2wd qc and I'm only seeing 14.5 to 15.6 mpg. And I only run about 1800 rpm at 70mph. I am planning on pulling the clutch fan and putting in an Efan. But if this MDS works on a gas motor it might save me from my wife making me buy a Honda for my 60 mile commute to work. (in addition to keeping truck, never getting rid of truck)
