Default Wheel and tire questions

Ok so It is time to change my tires and I have the stock 20s so the tires are pretty expensive. I was debating paying a little more and starting fresh with new (real) rims (not a huge fan of the 20s they look cheap). I was thinking of going with 17s and just wanted some opinions on rim selection, where to get them, and also tire size and brand. I am looking for a good all around tire that looks aggressive has to be able to handle these north east winters.

My truck is a black 05 1500 quad cab hemi. If you could post some picks of 17s on you trucks that would be helpful.

Thanks in advance

You can probably pick up the wheels and tires for about the price of just the tires if you go 17s instead of 20s, as long as you don't go for too much bling factor.

I ditched my 20s within 3 weeks after picking my truck up new off the lot. 20s don't do you much good off-road or for towing.

Mickey Thompson Classic IIs on mine, about $150 per with 35" Cepek FCIIs:

I don't do a lot of crazy off road but I do a lot of soft beach sand so I do have to air down a lot. I mainly want the 17s because I can get rims and tire for pretty much the cost of tires for the 20s.

Is there a preferred place to buy rims? Certain brands that are built better? I am leaning towards going black rim but a lot of reviews I read says the paint chips off. I don't know if those are just cheap rims I am looking at but if that is the case I am going chrome. These wheels have to be able to handle winter in the north east.

Also should I go 17x9 over 17x8? I think a 285/70/r17 (at least the biggest i found on tire rack) is the biggest I can go from reading the fitting guide on the forum.

I got 4 - 17" Dick Cepek Torque wheels for $511.00 from 4 wheel parts and if you look at their load range they are a very strong wheel. I have them wrapped in 35" Nitto Trail Grapplers.
