Super-chip? Worth it?

Guy wants 200 but I've seen it posted a couple times.
Anybody can tell me more about these things?
I mean how can you get more gas mileage and horse power??
Always thought these things were a joke?

Sounds like it wasn't "divorced" from the old truck, otherwise it should work on the new one (I would think).
They're not really a joke. I have my doubts they're worth what they cost. The mileage improvement is unlikely.

I am very happy with my #3865! I paid something like $339 from SUMMIT for it and the improvements are incredible! The only thing that I don't like is there is "no custom tuning" with it. I had read somewhere that you could get a custom tune for around $50 if the data logging info was sent to SC along with the modification list. I recently read otherwise, so I don't think they do it anymore. I'm not quite ready for custom tuning, but when I am, I may look into stacking my SC with an SCT from Hemifever. SCT cannot alter the tranny schedule, but can be adjusted to take full advantage of the engine.
My mileage seems to have gone up with the SC "Performance" tune, but not by a huge amount... maybe 1 to 2 mpg depending upon how much I play around with it. Even if the mileage stayed the same, the extra torque throughout the rpm range is a definite plus! It makes the truck feel "lighter" and agile. It takes hardly no throttle at all to get it up and roaring down the street.
The SC you're looking at for $200 looks to be the older version, and if it is still locked to the vehicle it was used on you'll spend $100 to get it unlocked again. You're now at $300 for an older version of the tuner. My humble opinion is to pay the extra $39 and get the newest version "brand new" with the manufacturer's warranty. You may even be able to get it cheaper now, I don't know. Just be sure to get it from a reputable company.

Don't care for mileage but the 91 tune is noticeable. Also comes with additional functions (tire size changes/read and clear codes/adjust shift points/PID datalogging)
Not the most current programmer but def' not a joke.
That said if you want that one then shoot for 150 first and work in 5 dollar increments. BE SURE to verify that its not VIN locked before purchasing a used programmer.
Like above you may also want to look into the SC3865. Some come a pretty good price by members selling theirs on the ram forums.

I just bought a 3865 for my truck and the one he has pictured is the 3815. $200.00 for the 3815 is a little high, I bought mine from a member on another forum and I paid $240.00 for mine shipped. I don't know why it wouldn't work on his new truck unless his new truck isn't a Dodge, or it is still married to the old truck he got rid of. I would also ask about a usb cable too, I know it mentions a usb port but it doesn't say anything about the usb cable that should come with it. As far as the mpg gain I gained about 1.5 mpgs with the 93 performance tune but the real gain is stepping on the gas and feeling the response. I love mine and wouldn't be without it.

Agreed, $200 is on the high side for a VERY outdated 3815, when for about $100 more you can get the 3865 and have the opportunity to add custom tranny tuning. Well worth the additional price of admission...
