Default New Ram owner...

Hey guys,

I've been browsing the forums for a few weeks now trying to get familiar with these trucks as I've been wanting one for a while and have always loved the dodges. I've been a long time subaru guy with owning 8 subys total but needed something with more utility for camping, pulling my teardrop trailer, future quad, etc.

I just bought a 07 Ram 1500 on Saturday. It's has 55k miles, from original owner, Hemi, bed liner, trailer brake (though he didn't do any heavy towing), super clean interior. It has the factory 17" rims which I'm stoked about so I won't have to pay 3 weeks pay for new tires. It currently needs new tires but I found a local guy selling a set of Goodyears with 70% tread for $150. It also is in need of front wheel bearings. I've watched the tutorial on Youtube from 1AAuto on doing these and they look pretty straight foward. I've always done the work on all my vehicles so this should be easy enough for me. I'm trying to find a set of the Timkens locally so they last longer and I won't have to wait for ordering some.

Once that stuff is taken care of my future plans are a 2.5" leveling kit, aftermarket 17" rims, new window tint, new grille, and upgraded door speakers. I'm up in the air about performance mods right now. I've been reading about the issue with MDS trucks and exhausts and how you'll need to use a tuner to disable the MDS or you get a bad resonating sound from the exhaust. Not sure if I want to disable that or not. And I figure without an exhaust system will a CAI be worth anything? Something to think about for me.

But I'm loving this truck so far and am looking foward to owning it!

4x4 or 4x2?

The general consensus here on the forum is that MDS doesn't help with fuel mileage any, so removing it should do nothing but help you out in the long run.

CAI won't really do anything for you without other mods. It's really just a helper for the other stuff, like tuner and exhaust.

It's a 4x4. I looked at a few 4x2 trucks before this one but we camp a lot and I wanted a truck that I could take into the mountains during winter, the snow here in Utah can get pretty heavy and nasty, so ultimately 4x4 was the way to go.

I'm having both wheel bearings replaced tomorrow morning by a local shop. Both wheels with National Brand lifetime warranty bearings and labor will be ~$580. Not a good feeling after dropping 16k on the truck but at least it will be good to go for as long as I own it!

Pushes the leveling kit out another few weeks but ya gotta do what ya gotta do...

If it's a 4x4, then you should look at the Bilstein leveling struts. You won't be disappointed.

I've seen those for the Titans but haven't seen any for the Rams. I'll definitely look into those cause my front end is feeling a little bouncy...
