Default Tinted my tails

So I tinted my taillights with VHT nightshades and clear coated with krylon crystal clear gloss. It has been very dreary and foggy around here so I couldn't really see how they looked in regular daylight but today it brightened up and they are a little to light, can still see a lot of red. I was wondering if you can apply more nightshades on top of the clear coat? I assume it would be the same as the initial application ie. Sanding and cleaning, but I really don't want to screw them up. They came out perfect just too light.

I don't see why not. Just scuff them up like you did initially, shoot them and then re-clear them! I would try to scuff most of the clear off if you can. If the clear hasn't hardened then you may have some issue's with bubling once it does harden.

It's very easy to go too dark with VHT. I would stay far away to get good even coverage so your not forced to add more to fill in blotchy areas.

I taped over my reverse lens so it's completely clear. Maybe tape over yours right now if you haven't. This way you'll retain some good light before the lens gets too dark. Jut remove the tape before clear coating so you can seal it up nice.

I taped over my b/u lights and I was glad I did, I don't have that much light backing up now it would have been really dark if I had tinted them too. Here is a couple pics of mine after 3 coats of VHT and 4 coats of clear. I also wet sanded mine with 1000 grit when I was done and used McGuires ultimate compound to buff them out. Wetsanding and buffing made a world of difference, they look so much glassier.

Also I never sanded and polished after the clear coat dried. When the clear coat was wet it sort of looked like an orange peel but after it dried it was smooth so I decided not to sand. The main reason was I do not have liquid polish like a lot of people use, I only have the paste kind. Would it have the same effect? They are smooth right now but not glasslike

I just went off of what everyone else said they had used and I didn't hear anything bad about Meguires Ultimate. I was like you when I got mine done and wasn't going to buff them, but I am really glad I did.

Any auto part store usually carries them, autozone, O' reilly, ect. Look in the paint section.
