A landmark in longevity!!!
I've been doing some searching around at rebuilt engines. For simplicity's sake I've just been looking at keeping the same size, 5.9
I've checked around a couple online sites and a few local engine shops here in Houston. The local shops say downtime would be about a week, they actually rebuild the engine I bring in to them. They say around $2,000 and up, but my local mechanic shop cautions me that many times those shops tack on lots of other charges and items that need replacing that are never in the original estimate.
Any one know first hand of any good engine shops in Houston?

Congratulations Casey.
It is stories like your's that alowed me to buy my truck with 138,000 already on it.
Body is in great shape and I figure with some TLC I should be able to reach the same
milestone one day.

In hindsight, I wish I'da kept my '98 RCSB 5.9 4x4 as a weekend truck. I loved that truck and you could bet your a$$es that if I still owned it today, it'd be stroked out to 408 CI...
(knocking on wood) I feel as though I've been so lucky with this truck to not have really any major common problems. fuse box is still fine (I've only brought her to 2 NY winters before). The only actual break downs I've had were, 1 an idler pulley came apart on a road trip, 2 a dead battery, and 3 crank position and camshaft sensor went flaky.
