How does your air filter look? Im not sure if the 03 is like the 06 without a map sensor, but since it doesnt read air volume to correct fuel, and you say you smell fuel, I wonder if there is a restriction in the incoming air not allowing the fuel to burn off. The only other thing I can think of is the throttle positioning sensor. Being electronically controlled, when they fail it can send all kinds of false readings, reguardless of actual tb plate position. But like the cam pos sensor, I'd think it would throw a code.

When I am pulling a load, I got out and it was loping really bad and there was a faint black smoke that smelled really rich like it was flooding itself, but it was real faint.

Air filter is new. Is the TPS in the throttle body on the 03's? I think that is right. That is what I'm afraid I am going to have to replace the whole throttle body or the APPS

Yeah I think the apps is a tps on the 03. Should take u 5 min to swap out. It's on the throttle body. After that I'd say get a compression test done if it still isn't fixed.

I dont know what her out come was but i had the same issues, went through the same steps. The one that solved it for me was a new computer. Its right on the fire wall next to the valve cover on the passenger side. Cost like 400 bucks with a warranty did a one for one swap with a company out of florida. Fixed the problem a year ago n still runs like a top. Mine is a manual by the way so dont blame the tranny lol.

Either sounds like a computer issue, or possibly a very very bad vacuum leak?

Wouldn't be able to tell you without seeing the truck though.
