I don't drive, but my husband owns a 07 dodge ram 1500 4x4 slt. Because he works all the time I ordered new tires for the truck, basing the size off what the fountain tire website told me
We ended with P245/70r17 Goodyear silent armor tires. My husband informed me afterward that these were small...great.
Anyway, to the point. We are looking at buying an old truck camper this year but hubby says that with the new tires, it wouldn't handle the weight well.
Is he right?

Are you looking at buying an inbed/over cab camper? If so, the 1500 isn't recommended for these types of campers no matter the tire size. This comes from the Ram Body Builder guide: http://www.rambodybuilder.com/2007/docs/dr/cgrrc.pdf

Model/Wheelbase: Ram 1500 4X4 / 120.5 & 140.5 All Engines DR6L61
Cab (Box) Seats All Regular Cab ST (All Boxes) All Seats DR6L62
GVWR (lbs) All
These models are not recommended for slide-in camper applications.

you first have to look at the rating of the tire to determine if it has the stout to handle towing, if it is a class E you are safe to tow. You will find the rating on the sidewall of the tire. it generally means that an "E" will have say ten plys where a "C" may only have 4-6 plays for strength. What he means by small is that a 245 tire is a bit narrower and therefore slightly shorter than say a 265 which is probably the most common size guys run on factory rims, they are a bit wider and slightly taller.
