Default Cummins 5.9 Turbo on 5.9 Gas?

Ok I have stupid question, i know A few people parting out their 5.9 cummins motors and I was interested in possibly buying the turbo and putting it on my truck which is a 5.9 gas. So the question is would it work? And if so how hard would it be to put it on? Also what kind of increase in performance would I see?

Thanks

the turbo would work pretty well, but would probably need a external wastegate added as well as a BOV, but there are a lot of little things to go along with a turbo... all the air piping, the oil feed and drains.

injectors, and fuel pump may need to be upgraded. wide band, boost, and fuel pressure gauges should be installed, and probably a SCT tune to make it all work right, once its all done and working, it would be an amazing setup with probably at least +50% of what you have now

Ya I knew about the piping and stuff just wasn't sure about it fitting and if it would give me a huge gain.

Also what's a BOV? Sorry not to familiar with all these abbreviations lol for being 20yrs old I can't keep up

lol sorry, its a blow off valve, it unloads the boost psi if u back off on the throttle quick, and does a good job of keeping the turbo in one piece on a gas engine

Wow I feel stupid now lol I know a blow off valve is but like I said all these damn abbreviations I can't keep up with them

But ya I know about all the odds and ends just wasn't sure about the fitting or I guess more if it would work properly and would give me a gain worth spending the cash, I want a tuner but rater have the turbo because I love the sound of them on the cummins

i almost did it to my dak, but an inbay turbo would be sweet, just have to get a little fancy with the pipe work, but it would b a lot better setup than a down streem, and you wouldnt have mess with the rediculas oil system for a down streem

See I don't know the difference between the inbay or down streem thing

I really want to do this but don't know much about it lol I know more about superchargers but those are much more expensive

a turbo is much more efficient than a supercharger, and a turbo is more efficient the closer to the exhaust manifolds you can keep it,

for in bay, its exactly that, turbo mounted in the engine bay mounted above the oil pan for oil drainage, and has very short piping compared to down streem

a down streem is typically mounted back past the transmission/t-case, normally under the bed, you have to route an oil pressure hose from the engine to the turbo, then set up the electrict pump to return it to the engine, air filter normally piped into the bed and inside a tool box or somethin similar, then you have to run the boost pipe all the way back to the intake, its kinda a mess IMO but they do work

Just keep in mind all the internals on that 360 are cast/nodular iron. Don't go to crazy or that block is going to have a new vent hole in the side. Almost every STS turbo setup from a hemi ram that I have seen for sale used was because the boost got turned up too high and blew the engine. If you're serious then it might be a good idea to build that block first (and stick some lower compression pistons in it). Power is addictive...
