Smile Looking to buy a Dodge RAM 1500... but need advice...

I am looking to buy a second hand 2006 Dodge Ram 4x4 truck, which has 242,000km on it (approximately 150,000 miles)

Does this truck still have a lot of life left? The truck looks great... paint is fantastic... etc... it went through an engine and transmission inspection, and is said to be in great condition.... and has never been used as a plow.

I just want to make sure this thing is worth $8000... or if I should keep looking?

Thanks!

C clips on the rear diff, sloppy rack and pinons. Rust in the door seams, 16 spark plugs on the hemi.
Hemi is a great engine as for the rest of the truck its used and nothing special over a used 6 year olld truck

So I should keep my eyes on the C clips on the rear diff, as well as look for rust in the door seams?

Also, it's the 5.7 Hemi.... more power than the 4.7.... but is it more problematic? Should I go ahead with this purchase?

Thanks.

There are no clips in the diff to worry about unless it has oem limited slip, aka trac-lok.

If it has been maintained and a mechanic checks it out, no reason to believe it shouldn't have some good life left in it. I'm approaching 100k on my 04 and could have taken better care of it but it has still not let me down and is showing no signs of letting me down. The hemi is a reliable engine but needs to be maintained just like any other engine. One difference is that it does take 16 plugs, rather than 8, and they like to be changed out with regular old copper core plugs about every 30k miles. But I went to almost 60k on my first set and they still looked pretty good when I took them out (ignorance on my part more than neglect). But I'm about 5k past due on changing them again and it's still running strong as ever.

I'm not planning on getting rid of mine anytime soon. Currently in the works for a mild makeover with a front-end level with longer, better shocks, 17" rims, new rubber, and a few other cosmetic things here and there. I wouldn't dump more money into it and plan on giving it to my son down the road if I thought it was in danger of giving up the ghost on me anytime soon.

Its a gamble, dosent matter the make, as all 6 year old trucks have issues. Ask your sel how much your willing to budget for repairs and how long you want to keep this truck.

All brands pretty much are built to get threw the warenty perriod as per my ram.

I guess I'll give it a shot... it's $7500.. but maybe I can get it for a bit less....

Thanks for your replies guys... if you think of anything else I should look out for when I go look at it tonight, I'd really appreciate it! (Trouble spots and what not for this year)

If it has been maintained I would buy it. $7500 isn't bad for a 4x4 in good shape even with lots of miles. I just bought a 05 2wd quad in great shape with 180k mile on it for $6500.

I have an 03 1500 with 217k and it is as stony as ever. Though it's a 4.7, the only major things I've replaced was the intake gasket, fuel pump, and front cv axles. Original rear diff, transmission, transfer case.... etc. Just like any vehicle, if properly maintained it will last many years, unless I just over maintain mine! Good luck!
