work truck shock suggestions?
Hi, I want to replace my OEM shocks from 02' and would like some suggestions -- and your reason why if you can -- as to why you'd recommend them for my truck. It is a work truck, no lift kit, not pretty, it needs to haul its own. I had the rear springs replaced because I broke the main on one side and replaced both full stacks. I put gas on another vehicle and I'm not impressed. I just finished the Hughes plenum replacement and other maint items and I might as well keep going. I need to replace the ORGINAL 02' battery too, think I'm pushing my luck with it! but I put a 'battery minder' on once a week and keep the fluids checked. Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

For a work truck that will tow/haul I'd go with a nitrogen filled shock over a hydrogen filled shock. Nitrogen is like 14x more dense than hydrogen so it makes for a stiffer shock.
The Rancho 5000s are good, I had them on my 2nd Gen, I run the adjustable 9000s now.
If you are budget minded then you can get ProComp ES9000s, Skyjacker Nitro or Rough Country Nitro 9000 shocks. These basically come off the same Tenneco assembly line as the Rancho 5000s and are generic, white bodied clones that are sold to 4x4 companies who simply place their sticker on them. You should be able to get any of the three for in the $30 a piece range...
