Default Finally Picked Up a 1500

As some of you may have seen I was in the market for an 06-08 1500 quad cab 4x4 hemi to help keep miles off the 06 3500.

Finally after 2 months and countless countless discussions, I found about the best I could find for the money and around here. Around here lower mileage 4x4's, especially 4 doors aren't cheap at all. Back when I bought my last truck 2 years ago, trucks were going for a steal but not so much anymore.

I even had almost 10 dealers tell me straight up that thanks for the offer but they know they can sell it for more and make more money. Keep in mind I was willing to pay 19.5 out the door in full that day in a 300 mile radius from me, just had to be a 06-08 with hemi, quad cab, 4x4, and 50,000-75,000 miles and I had a horrible time. But I needed to finally buy by this week so I ended up going with the best deal I could find and still be happy.

So it ended up being 06 Big Horn with 75,000 miles. Was owned by an older person since very low miles so its pretty dag on clean for the miles. Also has the back cover, spray in bed liner, side steps, full length console inside, etc. Pretty good optioned truck with heated mirrors, 6 cd changer, sat, etc. I think about the only thing it doesn't have is power rear sliding glass, heated rear glass which would lose the slider, no power pedals, or tow hooks. Also im pretty positive its an open diff which still blows my mind that a 4x4 is even allowed to come without tow hooks or rear lsd standard but owell.

Has a few small things that is to be expected. Scratched on the truck in a few places, kick panels are scratched for the heels that the older woman used, faded front plastics on parts of the bumper from the sun, rear chrome cladding on the bumper is starting to mess up alittle bit, etc. The only thing that kind of sucked was the rack and pinion has a very small pin hole cut on the passenger side boot. Its not leaking from the seals, and the boot actually looks buggered up there and like it just got hit by a stick and made a small cut. They said they lived on a farm so I wouldn't be shocked. Its just barely barely seeping, not even enough to drip down so I just topped off the fluid and going to keep on eye on the level. After a few months if its starting getting worse and worse I guess I will hae to get a new R&P or I guess I could just put some rtv over the small cut on the boot.

But on to pictures. Just quick crappy cell phone ones I snapped but you get the idea. Basically what you would expect it to look like.

I will need to get the stock slt and 4x4 badges for the rear. I don't know why they aren't there but the ones on the side are. Still haven't finished removing the dealers letters as you can see I have only got the first letter off so far lol.

Heres the fading around the foglights.

Also heres this. The plastic portion is actually literally melted right there, but the chrome plastic part of the bumper is not even dented or scratched in the slightest. I dont know if maybe there was a vehicle right in front super close and the exhaust melted it or what. Never seen that happen. I guess the whole bumper has to be replaced??

Nice truck!
That melted plastic piece comes out w/4 bolts and you can replace it w/a billet griill for your 1st Mod! like this one:

For the faded fog lite bezels get some Rustoleum black bumper paint @ Wally World and shoot them a quick $6 fix. I did mine along w/the black side steps on my nerfs... they came out like new.

Thanks man, im glad to know that wont be a bad fix.

I was thinking about doing that but im a big time stickler for making sure it looks stock, so I was just always afraid that the black would look to glossy or just not an oem black look if that makes sense.

Do the fog bezels just pop out to? Ive never messed with much comestic stuff on the dodges even though I now own them.

Im hoping to keep it simple with this one. Just add some tow hooks, some heated towing mirrors, probably a level and some 35's, regear to 4.56's with rear lsd and Amsoil synthetics all the way around.

Maybe add an aux port to the radio and redo the interior at some point but those will be the last things im worried about. Might sell the steps and rear cover, but still undecided. Maybe if they are some things people would be really interested in.

Tow hooks for a 1500 I think are going to require a cross member and some fabrication but its not to difficult...
That paint is specifically made for the faded trim on bumpers and anything w/that oem textured plastic.
The bezels do come out but its kinda of a pita. Just tape them off and shoot,

Even still they won't be funtional with out the cross member because of the 1500 frame.

These are oem for your truck:

So what about most of the 1500 4x4's that have the tow hooks on, do all have that brace?

I would think if they want to "use" them and not just for show they have the "tow hook bar".

I just assumed that if the truck came with factory tow hooks that it would be all set up for them to be properly used and if they didnt put tow hooks on your 4x4 (which is retarded at best anyways) that it would be setup that all you would need is the tow hooks and mounting bolts/nuts.
