Default Anyone ever painted steps?

I got the Carr Hoop and Hoop2 steps on the truck. I originally got them in the silver cause I had planned on doing everything in chrome....besides being more expensive, maybe I'm getting old, but I've really grown away from the chrome and was wanting to black them out. Would the plasti dip work well or is there another type/brand of paint that would do a better job? Has anyone ever done this? I wasnt able to find anything in the search about painting nerfbars/steps. Thanks

I hear plasti dip doesnt go well with steps because it will peel and chip easy from you stepping on it and road debris. I would find some good quality paint and just go that route

If you want a paint that will last, it wouldn't hurt to research POR-15 a little. It's a rust-preventative paint that you put on via brush. It's about $21 for the brush/POR/gloves and everything. Just an option though.

I wasnt aware rustoleum and krylon were quality paints, will check those out,Thanks. The por15 looks promising also, but I wonder if it will leave brush strokes or does it set well?

It's supposed to set pretty smoothly if applied "correctly" according to the company that sells it. If you put it in an area that gets a lot of sun, it's supposed to get a top coat. But the steps don't sound like they're going to get the high-noon UV rays shining on them.

What is the surface of those steps like? If smooth and shiny, it is going to be hard to get any paint to hold up. If they are more rough, any good paint made for metal should be okay. I have gone black on the rims and am about to plasti dip the chrome bits. I may try dipping the step bars too and see how they hold up. But i wouldnt bother with any parts that are going to be stepped on often.
