sorry if this is a dumb question, but how can you tell if a 2008 hemi 1500 actually has cylinder deactivation or not. I understand that it was an option, but don't know for sure. Not sure if the previous owner even knew for sure.

 

im pretty sure you have it unless you have a programmer and you turned it off. i think from 06 on had mds but again im not 100%. you should be able to hear a difference when it kicks in, thats what ive read from people posting on here that have it.

 

Well the vehicle in your profile is an '05 4.7 which does not.

I'm going to assume the '08 1500 Hemi you ask about is NOT a MegaCab. ALL non-Mega 1500 series Hemi trucks from '06+ are MDS - this is/was NOT an optional feature. Non-MegaCab 1500s have it, MegaCab and all 2500/3500s DO NOT have it...

ALL 2006- Present Dodge HEMI 5.7L engines have MDS with the exception of 2500 and 3500 model gas models. All 1500 5.7L from 2006 and up have it from the factory.

 

We have it and it sucks. Makes my truck sound like a damn Caliber without a muffler

Not true. As stated in my above post - the '06+ Mega Cab 1500 does NOT have MDS - but all other 1500s do...

 

I forgot the Mega Cabs since I personally put them with 2500s but yes Mega Cabs don't have MDS either
