what lift kit should i get on cyber monday
Just make sure that they don't "cheat" to get the extra inch or two like the Fabtech and Superlift torsion front IFS kits do, by really lifting 4" and having you turn the key bolts to attain the rest of the height. This has proven to be REAL hard on CVs.
I know the Skyjacker kit gives a true 6" while keeping the CV angles stock. Dunno about any of the others as they weren't out in '05 when I installed my Rancho 4" lift...

fwiw I installed a 4~5" rough country lift on my '02.. it is pretty much the only lift available for the third gen w/ a 5.9l v8.. there is/was another, but the designs were so similar that it didn't rate the extra $500 or so difference...
as Hammer said- with the keys turned up, those things are TOUGH of cv's.. Plus, even on 35's, (which is the ceiling w/ a torsion bar lift imHo), it looked stupid.. I like a fuller wheel well and not dinky hoops under a huge height.. AND, you gotta figure "what value does height have if it doesn't provide any more ground clearance?" ...
So, I cranked the bars down low.. I pulled the blocks off the rear (I have easyride +3" leaves out back) and made her sit just a touch **** high... I eliminated as much of the stress on the cv's as I could.. guess what? in a full extension situation, they still rip the boots...
choose your lift carefully.. look for one similar to the torsion bar hemi kits like Hammer has (rancho).. the complete sub frame cannot be over emphasized for durability...

ugh this is hard! Is the skyjacker 6" system out of question for a 2002 5.9l v8? it says that models with 4 bolts attaching the transfer case to the transmission, i am mechanicaly retarded so does anyone know if i do or do not? and that new generation engines seal adapter needed, i have the 360 does that exclude me from this? in short is this one a complete 100% bolt on true lift no cheating?
Would call skyjacker and ask, just to be careful, but that is the other lift I was referring too..
These torsion bar lifts aren't as easy as others.. bolt on? Yes.. good material? Yes.. lotta parts and need of a pry bar to install?? Heyall yes to that, too..
If you're running a 5.9 like me, you gotta clear the transmission.. for that, the lift has to be specific.. you may wanna call the various makers and ask to be absolutely certain before you pull the trigger.. call it an ounce of prevention..

Well I called skyjacker and they were closed, going to try tomorrow. Checked summit racing and the lift is applicable to the specific 2002-2003 ram with a 360 v8, as well as the other engines from 02 through 05, this according to you is raising a red flag in my head due to the thought that it's for all engines. I wish we had someone on here with a skyjacker lifted (if possible) 02 5.9l. Would like to see if this would work
Just wait till you can talk to Skyjacker. I like the lift and just like my 4" Rancho, it has a full sub-frame, but is 6" flavor. I've been in a truck with it ('03 Hemi) and helped install it on an '05 Hemi. Like my Rancho, the CVs are at stock angles. But I have no first hand knowledge of fitment on a 5.9 third Gen.
IMO it's the best 6" kit for a torsion front 4x4...

ive got a good hunch it will work cause I see a few 5.9l 3rd gems on cardomain withe em, but im going to call right when they open at 8 tomorrow. Plus summit is usually good at having their **** researched comparability wise.
well you have some more options than i do, the hoop im jumping through is a kit compatible with the 5.9l v8
well i keep spacing off calling skyjacker, so i pose a question, I want my truck to look beefy compared to others is the main reason i want the lift. But i do have a 3" pa body lift in my garage uninstalled as i cannot find someone to install it. Maybe i should just save my money and get it installed and 2" level and stuff some 35''s under there? If i do you think i can pull off other offroader items, mainly a defender roof rack with some hellas up top and spare tire aswell as an nfab rearrunner and maybe a bull bar upfront without the truck being out of proportion as in lookin to small with all that. I have a big warn winch with a universal mount i can put on my rear reciver. I do some snow recovery in the winter with my last truck f250 1980's or so. But mainly i do some nice and fast rural night driving almost every night on the way home. or should i just get the kit and be a badass and start to run the super shallow crickline at the farm about 3 miles till our property line end to end. In the end i want this thing to look mean and stand tall against others
