Anti Lock Brakes not working??
on my 08 1500 big horn it states in the build spec: "BRRS 4 Wheel Disc Rr Anti-Lock Brakes" we have just gotten some snow and going down my hill i hit the brakes and i did not feel that studdering vibration usually felt with anti locks and it felt that my tires just locked up and were sliding. has there been issued with ABS? how do i check them? can i visually look to see if they are there? any help is appreciated!!
He has 4 wheel ABS. I don't personally being in and from FL but doesn't ABS not work in snow too well? I think it needs traction to work and grip the road so if it's not gripping I think they'll just lock up. Not sure though, don't quote me on that.
my build sheet says 4 wheel abs...when i step hard on the brake it feels like the fronts lock up and just slide...i'm not sure how to check to see if they are functioning correctly or is that something a shop needs to do?
in every car or truck that i've driven that has abs i have always felt and heard it kick in, and 95% of the time it's when there is snow on the ground..why wouldn't abs work in the snow? isn't that the most opportune time for it to work? is there a diagnostic i can check? or maybe have garage check? i just can't believe that my wheels are supposed to slide like they are and not feel anything pulsing in the brake pedal
From Wikipedia:
"ABS generally offers improved vehicle control and decreases stopping distances on dry and slippery surfaces for many drivers; however, on loose surfaces like gravel or snow-covered pavement, ABS can significantly increase braking distance, although still improving vehicle control"

You can definitely feel ABS on snow/ice. The ABS system's job is not to stop you faster, but to provide a balance of stopping power and control.
On ice or snow, the brake pedal will pulsate and make noise. Vehicles equipped with 4wheel ABS should never lock up under any conditions.

that's exactly my point, Jareski...my pedal doesn't do anything associated with typical abs, it just feels like i'm braking as normal and then my tires slide...i understand what abs is designed to do, i just don't think mine are kicking in...every other car i've driven you can physically hear and feel it kick in, regardless if there is snow on the ground
