I can say from experience that this can't be entirely true.

My first car was a 1996 cougar, This beast never had snow tires and there was no amount of snow that could stop this car. It NEVER got stuck (ok, once)

I had an accident with that car and purchased a 1997 cougar....basically the EXACT same car.

The 1997 got stuck in EVERYTHING, then I put snow tires on the back and it STILL got stuck all the time.

There is literally no reasonable explanation for this.

I do not hesitate to put my truck in 4x4 at highway speeds if the roads are icy/slippery and the situation warrants it. I wouldn't recommend running it in 4x4 at high speeds all the time, but it's not going to hurt it if the roads are slick.

thanks, thats what i was thinking and do as well.
