Default New Truck

Hi,
Im not entirely new to the site, but I did join the Air Force and due to that I made the mistake of selling my old 98 ram 1500 and now im in the market to buy a new truck. I have a little bit of mechanical skill and was looking for some input.
Im looking at a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 Truck 4x4 Quad Cab. I also did an auto check on it.
Im planning on taking a look at it later today and just looking for tips on what to look for. Anything unique to the gen 3 that I should be aware of? Also I kinda suck at haggling the price. Would $8000 out the door be a good offer? How much should I be offering?
thank you for any and all help

Is that your budget? The auto check sounds okay but it shows some things I would wonder about. 3 owners a little concern. Looks like it started in Ca and ended up in Ga, prob not a big deal. Visible condition and service history are important. A truck that is over 10 years old, has been moved coast to coast, and had 3 owners probably won't have a consistent service history. If you don't know what has been maintained on it, plan on spending some money on it to make sure it is up to date. If you are willing to spend 8k, start lower and work up to that if you look at it and decide you want it. If you can spend more, I would keep an eye out for a newer hemi with less miles. But we all have our limit.

Make sure to look at the dash , prior to 05 the dashes were made from substandard plastic. I also agree you might be able to find a hemi for that price range.

Sometimes that's the best time to dealer shop... When they are closed.

$8k sounds pretty expensive for being 11 years old with a 4.7L. I'd keep looking.

I agree with brandon, too much for an 02 with the 4.7 in it and that many miles. You can find a better deal.

The 4.7 would scare me. They have been known to overheat, sludge up, etc. That engine requires impeccable maintenance to last. Even then I've seen them go by 150k. The hemi has proven very reliable, as was the 360 (5.9L) that was still available in 2002.
