Default 2006 mega cab 4x4 1500 5.7hemi

I saw an ad for this truck asking 10k it has 197000 on it. To me it would seem it will need drivetrain replaced or rebuilt soon.

I did some searching before posting to see if that would be insane to buy it or not. Its at a independant dealer.

Please let me know what you think.

I'm assuming that's miles. That's high. If I were buying it, I'd almost expect problems of some kind. You almost have to with that amount of miles on it.

It's always a gamble at that stage. I'd see if I could find some maintenance records or something. If not, tell them you want a grand off because ur not sure what its past was. Go from there.

Chances are the dealership will want to move it quick, because vehicles on a car lot with that amount of mileage on it is usually more of a risk/liability.

Of course, this is all my opinion. I expect others to differ.

If you would like a build sheet on the vehicle PM me the vin and a email address and I will send you one. I will also check for any warranty restrictions that may have been placed on the vehicle and recalls. At least with a build sheet you will know how the vehicle was originally equipped.

that seems like a lot for a truck with that many miles, even if that is what it is book listed for. Are you set on the mega cab? Completely capped out at 10 grand? What's stopping you from finding something with lower miles? Seems to me there are lots of hemis from the mid 2000's with 100,000 miles or so on em for 10-12 grand. Just curious.

It doesn't have to be a mega cab mostly seeing a lot of 1500s with the hemi with 100k miles on them still asking 18k or so.
I know the 4.7 is not a great engine from friends who've had them.
Just wanting to know how good the hemi is and 4x4 on the 1500 even if not doing any heavy off roading just looking at reliability really.

18k for hemis with 100,000?? Dang, you must live in california... thats crazy. Reliability is pretty decent, there are things to look out for most years, but the engine is pretty good and so is the tranny when taken care of properly. The 4x4 is good but if you've got the lsd rear end then you may run into the c-clip issue which is well documented all around. I would try to find something with less miles, but if prices are that high and you are stuck to that budget, then you are kinda strapped in i guess.

If its a mega cab then its not really a 1500. It has a 2500 frame and suspension so since its a 4x4 you'll have a solid front axle instead of the independent front suspension that the 1500s have. With the SFA you'll want to look out for the "death wobble". Do a search on here for it and you'll find out what other issues the SFA may present. The Hemi will probably last about 50k more miles honestly. Unless that thing has really been taken care of I wouldn't see it having too much life in it. There are people on here who have 200k+ and have their engines running great but they are meticulous about maintenance

I have 2006 mega with 150k. I bought it 3 years ago and have had to do a lot of maintenance to it because it was simply ignored. It 120k when i got it and paid 12.5 for it from a buddy that worked at a dealer. It was a trade in and had not been gone through. I had to replace shocks, front u-joints, ball joints, tierod ends, atf, diff. fluids, rear calipers, brake pads all around, had to fix the recirc. door, took the dash out to remove the air screen, exhaust manifold bolts, spark plugs and idler pulleys. Thats all LOL, but after all that its a decent truck, i did all the work myself to save a butt load of money but if you cant do all that yourself, oh boy...
