Has anyone ever got WiFi put into their 3rd gen? How could I do this or is it even possible without getting a new cpu

That'll depend on his plan. My unlimited data plan won't allow it, an' I ain't changin'.

well i don't see how you would be able to do what he wants any other way. you will most likely pay more than it is worth to install a wifi system and then you would have to pay for internet.

can you do tethering with your phone? mine can be used as a wifi hot spot or do tethering but internet is too expensive to use. i try to keep under m 100mb/month limit.

Tethering and hotspot are the same thing. Yes, it's expensive. He'll be better off getting a Mi-Fi device from his carrier.

they do the same thing but not really the same thing. some phones can't be a wireless hot spot but they can do the tethering. i don't know what prices are like down there for mobile internet with a Mi-Fi device but i think up here it would almost be as cheap to use your phone as a wifi hot spot or do tethering and get a great phone plan.

I have ATT unlimited plan and I tether my Phone to my other phone GPS unit I have mounted in the truck.

Which phone do you have. It is an Android phone you can download an app to bypass the ATT crap.

Since my phone is rooted and running a custom Personal Rom (made myself) I have bypassed this and no longer need an extra app to tether.

Use FoxFi on my phone to run it as a hotspot then connect my Tablet. Takes my mind off my wife's driving since i drive in with her to work on most weekdays.

WiFi, FoxFi, Androids, Tablets??? Hell I'm debating pulling my 8 track and making the big plunge all the way to CD. Of course this means I'll have to buy The White Album all over again...
