Default Paint idea

The dodge cancer is making me depressed. A new paint job would be in the $3k range and really isn't worth it on a 11 year old truck. I had a buddy recently paint his truck with a military grade jeep paint. They come in tan, green, and now flat black. What are you ideas on a dark military green color with black accents. I think it would look pretty sweet.

Does anyone have any experience with that paint. How does is lay down? I would attempt to do the prep work myself. Then try to spray 1 body panel myself to see if I can do it.

Whatever paint you put on, the rust will come back within months. What are you going to do with all the door jambs and areas similar? Your truck is worth more with some rust, than it will be changing the color. Huge job as well. I would advise you treat the rust as best as you can and spray over with the same color. Painting the whole truck a different color is probably out of your realm, judging in your comments. The last thing you want is to do the whole truck, and then find you didn't prep it right. The paint would come off in sheets.

Sorry I didn't mention but there is absolutely no rust on my truck. It is the factory paint that is getting chalky and clear coat chipping off. The truck is black so door jams would only accent the green. My plan would be dark flat green on the body, flat black roof. And keep my bumpers, plastics, wheels all black. Having black door jams is of no concern for me.

Yes, completely wrong word. Cancer in the auto body world means rust.

Have you consider clay bar detailing? It might not make it perfect but a lot cheaper than painting.

Clay bar'ing isn't even worth the effort in my situation. I have multiple areas where the clear coat has peeled completely off and other areas where it is chalking up.

This is the paint i am thinking of! https://www.armyjeepparts.net/t-GCI_paint.aspx

And here is the color scheme I am thinking. However, this truck is a wrap with OE black underneath.

In order to look nice like that Raptor, you'll have to sand down your paint down the same as if you were going to base/clear it. You'd have to primer and paint it just the same too. It would need to be prepped and sprayed in a booth.
You would put in the same amount of time and effort in the end and your tucks value would be reduced. You will limit your potential resale also.
There's a limited crowd for this appearance.

Why not try plasti dip, it cheaper and if you don't like it, it will peel right off. I bought a kit from there website and it ran about $475 for everything. But I'm waiting until it warms up to tackle that kind of job.
