Default Decision time 04 2500

Looks like my tranny is done. It started slipping and got the following codes po700, po732, po733,po734 and po700 again. Fluid does not smell good either. Ive already put 3 grand into the truck this year. Now the question, do I put more money into it or cut my losses and try to trade it for a new truck? What everyone opinion

How many miles? Regardless how expensive a new tranny is, it will always be cheaper than a new truck. I was in the same dilemma. I had to replace all my front end components, tires, paint etc. I replaced my whole front end: balljoints, upper control arms, shocks, wheel bearings, inner/ outer tie rods, drilled/ slotted rotors, cv axles etc. With all that work, it would have been equivalent to two truck payments. I still need to do paint and tires though.

Look at it this way, you already put in $3k. If you upgrade your tranny, you won't have to worry about it again. Now if you buy a newer used truck, you have no clue on the condition of it's tranny and you could end up going through the same thing but with a onto of it.

From a economical standpoint, its always cheaper to fix what you have. Now if a payment is of no concern, go buy something new.

I've got 93 k on it. The 3k in to her is pretty much what you did, ball joints wheel bearing, brakes all the way around, new steering shaft, cat back exhaust, new fuel rails and two injectors. Still need to do exhaust manifolds and fix The AC. Kinda agree about fixing the tranny, but what's next? If I keep putting money into might as well have a payment and be driving something new with better mileage.

After the tranny, the truck should be mechanically sound for another 100k+. I guess it just depends on your next truck and its condition. For me, Im keeping my truck until I get into a career job and can afford any truck i want.

If you keep putting money into it by upgrading worn parts with something better, you'll have a bullet proof truck when your done. Just remember, new trucks wear out and need maintenance too.
