I have had various dodge trucks over the years as well as my whole family. I am currently looking at a 2005 Ram 2500 4x4 with the Hemi and it has 280000 miles but drives like a dream and the whole truck is supper clean. What are your thoughts on buying a Hemi with that many miles.
Then enjoy..Seems these engines can go a long distance if maintained..I'm gonna hit 200K next month and may have close to 300K in 3 years (knock on wood). I still luvs me truck.
Oops! yep I agree..I would only buy it taking the cost of a rebuild into account.

To add that to, might want to take into account of both a rebuild on the hemi and a rebuilt tranny. I know with the 2nd gen dodges transmission was the biggest issue, not sure if that continued on to more current dodges or not. But most definitely get your local shop to do a FULL inspection, not just safety.
Thats kind of been my thought all along drive until it needs rebuilt or just change if I run across a donor truck. He is asking $6500 out the door which isnt terrible by no means since the body is totally rust free and frame looks good. My dad has a 2nd gen with 240,000 and runs great no issues. Just wanted some feedback from you all.
It appears KBB rates this truck from 6,800 bucks (fair) to 8700 bucks (great). (these are rough estimates since i know very little about the truck) Now with that being said.. It can take you in two directions. You can either look at it as a great deal and maybe the guy is stupid or thinks those miles will back you off, or theres something wrong with it that he doesnt want to fix or talk about. Take it either way. Once again I just advise you to really really get the truck checked out. If everything comes back ok, then you will atleast feel better down the road. I know my local garage will do a full inspection (not just safety) on any vehicles i find for 35 bucks (which to me is absolutely great. Also do a carfax on it.. It's worth it. But look for the little things on the truck, or even try and read the guy selling it. If he seems to be really into telling you theres nothing wrong, probably is.. All the obvious crap of a "salesmen" which im sure you already know. I think a good way of looking at a truck (with that many miles) is consider your buy in price..(6500) then add in what a new tranny and a new engine would cost (or rebuilds). If your okay with spending the amount you get to on that truck, then go for it! But you might find for that amount.. You could just buy a much lower miles truck. And to add in my story:
I bought a 1998 ram 1500 with 140k on it. I immediately (and unanticipated these immediate repairs) had to replace my whole exhaust system along with my entire brakes (lines, pads, rotors(even the parking break)) and fix an abs issue. That cost me about as much as the truck itself cost me. However in the end i've now had this truck for 2 years with very little issues and i absolutely love the hell out of it! It really is my pride and joy and im very happy i went with this truck! So it can go both ways..
