Here is an update to the 4x4 problem.
I had the truck at the local Pepboys where my daughter works.
They put it on the lift and noticed its not the 4x4 but the front axles that go into the front differential. Mechanic said for me to get a used differential with axles and he would install for me.

He showed me and the axles look bad but the stub axles in the diff might be bad also.

I would hope just replacing the axles would do the job but don't know.

Question how much would a used front diff and axles go for from a salvage yard. What would be a good price.

Live here in the Boston area and have a few salvage yards. I really want to sell the truck and not have it fixed just sell with the buyer knowing that the 4x4 is not working.

Truck is driveable but no 4x4.

Any suggestions?

 

Call the salvage yard and ask how much? Probably cheaper if you go pull yourself.

Other than looking at the tag on differential is there a way to find the gear ratio what is the standard ratio 3.55 gears?

I think I located one but need the gear ratio. Person wants $260 comes with both axles.

Problem solved.

I sold the truck person who bought it knows about the bad 4x4 not working.
He is going to fix with a used front differential.
If i put the $800-900 for the repair yes I would get it back in selling the truck but it all works out I put $800 in and get my money back. So selling was good for me.
