Default 2006 instrument cluster swap

i would like to know if I change the instrument cluster on my 2006 dodge ram 1500 with an ebay used cluster will it be just plug n play i.e. mileage from my truck is 157,000 the ebay cluster is 63,000 ... what is involved to make the swap? will the truck mileage just automatically come from my trucks BCM or will it require more for this to work correctly ?

No. Takes special software to do it that even dealers don't have. They have the capability to install a brand new uninitialized cluster in; a used one will not update to your vehicle mileage, though once in it will accrue mileage as you drive it (just won't match your PCM).

Default Instrument Cluster

Ok ... so my next question is ... will that be the ONLY problem ??? Other than the odometer since it is the correct part number a USED cluster will work in the truck and won't cause a problem with incorrect VIN # or anything else ? ... I have talked to another mechanic locally and he was unsure ... I could send it in for repair but a used refurb is $600 plus install.... a bit pricey to say the least. ... Just want to know that the used one will work and the truck will start without any other problems... THANKS

I just ran into this problem. there are companies that sell clusters and "Some" of them can modify the mileage. You don't need a Cluster to start your truck. A replacement cluster will work also you can change the Remote receiver for your door locks etc. May I ask WHY you need to change it? YOu dont need some one to change it it is realtively easy and there are videos on YouTube
