Magnaflow or Flowmaster, exhaust or no?

I went to an exhaust and headers specialist today. I have an 06 1500 Hemi brand new QC 4x4 Night Runner. I've been reading on here and talking to my friends about intake and exhaust and all that. He basically said theres no reason to mess with the exhaust, just change the muffler. He said the exhaust is damn efficient as it is, and its just throwing money for no reason. He suggested going with the magnaflow muffler. When I brought up Flowmaster 40 series he said Flowmaster had a pretty shotty design and its more for a speciallized sound than it is for actual flow. He said the magnaflow would sound just as good and be more functional. So I was planning on walking in there, dropping 1400 for a dual exhaust Flowmaster and a K&N 77 CIA and he basically talked me out of spending so much. Told me to buy the 180$ installed magnaflow muffler.
I need some help on this cause I am no motorhead and am learning but don't want to get ripped. I want to increase the horse power of the truck, and make it sound bad ***. I also want to be smart about it. I want a clean, efficient, bad *** sounding truck. Sounds like everyone else on this forum don't it.
Any other tips for increasing horsepower would be plenty helpfull. I'm sure you guys see a million of these threads, but this time next year I'll be here answering this question for other newbies so you don't have to [sm=groupwave.gif]

I'll be watching this thread as I am in the same boat. Been doing searches and can not find any real reason for going full catback system and the stock pipe does look pretty darn good. I already have the Gibson Tip, nice guys the dealers were, but stock mufflers and would like a little more V8 sound and hopefully a "little" increase in MPG.

I have the 3 /2.5 Dual part number 12198 Magnaflow muffler on my 04 QC Hemi. It sounds awesome and is pretty loud at WOT but never sounds hollow or tinny. It sounds very throaty like a death metal singer. Previous posts and shops have advised if you go dual out ensure you go with 2.5 inch and not larger. This should provide enough back pressure. I love the sound. You should know though that even though my muffler is loud at WOT it is pretty quiet unless you give it some gas.

Man theres got to be some techs around here that know WTF to do with this. 8 votes on a forum this big? Did I go to the wrong forum to discuss Dodge Hemi trucks or what?

do a search theres been so many exhaust threads on this forum lately that many people have gotten tired of reading about it or discussing it so that may be why youre not getting the answers you wanted. but yes what the exhuast guy told you was right. theres no reason to go with a complete true dual set up (headers, dual hi flow cats, and dual mufflers) unless youre really pushing some horeses. the stock system will work fine for most ppl and the ones that you see with complete exhuast setups are usually heavily modded trucks or dont really need the complete exhuast but did it anyways. i have heard some ppls opinions that flowmaster wasnt a good muffler for a hemi engine because like the guy told you it is more designed for sound. now the thing is, on a daily driver truck the amount of power you would lose by going with flowmaster instead of magnaflow (which would be optimal on a hemi) is so small that its not even worth worrying about. if you had a truck with thousands of dollars worth of mods pushing the most horsepower you could squeeze out of it then yes changing to a magnaflow would MIGHT make quite a difference due to the increased air flow but on a daily driver truck with just a few bolt ons, i would just go with whatever you think sounds the best. just my humble opinion.

Option C, Gibson. I have 4.7 (I know, I wish it was a Hemi). I just put in a Gibson exhaust and CAI. It's not the same engine at all. The power and sound (ohhhhh, the sound) are incredible. Everyone knows Flowmaster and Magnaflow, but do your homework and check out alternatives. I'm glad I did.

i put just a flowmaster delta 40 muffler on mine. The hemi already has 3" piping all the way through. Take your resonator out after the muffler and you have an amazing deep sounding v8 exhasut system. Unfortunatly i didnt see an increase in the MPG simply cause u always wanna hear it roar now and end up mashing the pedal to the floor more. But i see no need to go full new exhaust except maybe if u go duals.

Does the 4.7 not have a 3 inch pipe going to the muffler? I'm more than likely going to replace the muffler and put an angled chrome tip coming out in the stock position (behind the passenger tire).
