HELP 2006 2500 5.7 hemi 4x4 mega cab 4.10 rear end mpg?
i just bought this awesome beast and suppose to pick it up this thursday. The dealer had me sold on the new (mds) system that the hemi came out with in 2006. Truth be told I just found out that this system only comes with the 1500 dodge ram hemi I was totally misguided. Im pulling my hair out trying to figure out what kind of mpg I will get without pulling a load. Cant be very good cause nobody seams to have any idea or want to tell me. This is really stressing me out. Please help! thanks for your time! dave
I also have an '05 2500, but with 4.56 gears. I average about 13 - 14 mpg with mixed surface street / highway driving. Funny they told you a 2500 would have MDS..when I bought mine I had a whole discussion with the dealership about how I didn't want MDS and they insisted that all non-diesel trucks had it (stupid sales guy!!). Finaly they called over a service manager to "convince" me.....short version is I got an apology and some extra free coupons for stuff from their parts department (i.e. hats, etc.) for them waisting my time for over an hour...
As for the megacab part, I'd imagine the weight can't be too substantialy different enough to make a big difference....

it really sucks that i called seven different dealerships and they all had to look up what trucks had the mds system. Four out of the seven were wrong.Tells you that the salesmen should do a little more research on there product. It cracks me up even more that when youask them about the mpg they cant even begin to answer you, and if for some reason they do itshard to keep a straight face. I had one salesman tell me a 2500 mega gets 15 city and 22 highway! what the heck was he smokin! I thensaid wow a 2500 gets better mpg than the 1500? Then proceeded to walkaway.
If I were a salesman and was asked how many mpg a vehicle got....the most honest answer I, or anyone could give, would be...."It depends on your right foot." I can understand them not wanting to respond, given so many variables that effect mileage. However, BSing the consumer with inflated mpg figures does nothing except set the buyer up for disappointment.
I would raise a fuss and make them swap it for the CTD the hemi in the mega cab is not known for mpg.
