I have a buddy who swears they are a waste of money and if they get cracked your truck looks dinged. I feel if they get cracked you can replace them as well as hide small dents in the bed rail.

I bought them and did'nt use them. I will put them on when and if I scratch the top of my rails. What I am using now is a clear protective film/tape on the top of my bed rails. It works great and cant be seen much. Advanced Auto has it. It comes in 8" wide roll by 20'. It is exactly the same film used in clear bra applications only cheaper at $19.99 a roll. Ebay will sell it.

i like the clear tape idea to protect against smallsurface scratches. thoughdoesn't seem durable enough to protect against a truck box. i used to have a 1995 ford f-150 and after i took the truck box off, the paint was worn to the metal in four spots from vibrations and weight of the box. i want to avoid that on my newRam and thought the plastic bed rails may be the solution. but not if they look cheesy and cheap.the newer Ford F-150 come stock with plastic rail covers that look good IMHO. wondering if the OEM dodge rail protectors have the same fit/finish when installed - ie no gaps, looks like factory. thanks for the input!

anybody have any alternate ideas on how to protect bed rails from a truck box? or do you pretty much accept the damage to your rails when you install one?

If you are willing to spend the cash and get rid of the drop in liner, you could do a spray in over the rails. Line-x warrantees it's product for life, so if you were to cut it or rub it down they would fix it for free.
