Default 20 Inch Chrome Clad Wheels

I just purchased a '07 Quad Cab Ram with the "Big Ram" Edition. Nice vehicle. The "Big Horn" Edition comes with 20 inch argent aluminum wheels. The vehicle was then equiped with Chrome Clad Wheels for an additional $405.00. This didn't make sense to me. When you tapped on the Chrome Clad Wheels, you were tapping on plastic. When you go over to the exact same vehicle with just the aluminum wheels that already come with the "Big Horn" your'e tapping on solid aluminum. I had the dealer take off the wheels and swap for the aluminum 20's rather than the Chrome clad wheels 20's. They also took the $405.00 off the MSRP of the vehicle. Why would anyone pay $405.00 for plastic aluminum over a steel wheel. Makes absolutely no sense to me. Hopefully others will chime in.

Also, I went with the standard radio that comes with the vehicle. Not the Infinity system. I prefered the standard because of the aux. output for my IPOD. The nicer radio didn't have this. Anyway, the sound is just ok to me. Will changing my speakers with a nicer set of 4 produce much better sound? Or, with the plain Jane radio continue to give me just OK sound with better speakers?

Thanks Guys.
Matt

I hate my rims I want my black ones that are supposed to be on it! As far as the radio goes I have the basic CD/ Satalite with aux for my Ipod. Sound good, just set you Ipod halfway and use the radios volume control to adjust. But I plan on some stronger speakers just to be safe with my music.

The chrome clad wheels that Dodge puts on are junk. I have them on my truck and can't wait to get my new rims and rubber. If you ask me, when you pay $40,000 for a truck, it shouldn't come with wheels sporting plastic covers.

well i can't really say much about the wheels because i have the aluminum ones but both my friends have the chrome clad ones and i think they're junk. As far as the sound goes, you can't ever have a stock system sound as good as an aftermarket system will.

I have the chrome clad on mine(part of the sport package) and am not totally sold on them but they look good till I can get others. I don't think the aluminums would do the Electric Blue Justice. I was dis-heartened when I learned they were plastic covers but I do like the design better than the Older fan blade style of previous years. At least they're easy to clean. My .02.

I have the chrome clad on my 2003 and have never cared that they're not aluminum...now if I paid more for them, I might have an issue, but I don't think in 03 that was an issue

the one bonus they do have going for them is that you can go 6 months without washing your truck and they'll look cleaner than aluminum ones do with a week of not washing

Hey guys i'm new here but wanted to comment on this subject. I just bought my truck a few weeks ago and was looking at replacing the stock SLT 17's for the SRT-10 wheels. My concern with this is it either looking like crap b/c i don't have the color match fenders, etc. but also those in the know might think i'm posing ya know. What do you guys think??

do whatever you want. dont worry about "posing" or w/e other people say. unless its like 20 out of 20 people telling you not to. then theres probaly something wrong with it. ha but if 14/20 are saying no but you still like it, go for it.

I have the 20" alum rims. I really was not swaying either way for my truck with or without them. In this case I am going to pay out the ying yang when it comes time to change shoes on my truck. The one thing I never liked about alum rims is they get dinged so easily whereas steel can be pounded back. The first trip I took in my truck the weekend I bought her was to DC and I took a chunk out of the rim.

07ram1500 if you paid 40k for your truck your an idiot. Everyone brags about how little they pay but when anything goes wrong they qoute the sticker price... I paid 24k for my truck that had a sticker of 36k. Is it a 36k truck? Hell no because I was only willing to pay 24k and they were willing to sell it to me for that.
