what do you guys think of your shorty wires.
I am about to swap out the long wires for some 8mm shorties from mopar and was wondering if any one has had any problems with them in the past and if not how long have youguysbeen running with them and no problems?
i have the taylor shorties. with a plug change and swapping these wires it was a TOTALLY different truck. idles smooth as hell and it improved throttle response a ton. well worth 60 bucks or so
I'm a fairly new hemi owner (04 quad cab) and have a plug change coming up up in near future. What is the deal with the Tailor shorties?? Do people really see a performance differance? I assume they are just shorter than the originals with less ressistance over the shorter distance???
That and all of your spark from that coil is going to the same cylinder, rather than to an opposite cylinder on its partial exhaust stroke (if I remember right). First thing I noticed when I put them in was it felt like it pulled harder mid-range and top end. I also definitely got better mileage, not drastic amounts mind you, but I burned less fuel going to work than I used to.
heres how they work...
your regular set up causes one spark on the combustion stroke and then while that coil is ignitin it is also igniting another plug on another cylinder which is in its exhuast stroke. Now of course combustion on the exhaust stroke is of no power benefit but it makes it a cleaner burn. emissions etc... now the taylors (or any other shorty OR any one that runs the coil to the plug on the same cylinder) takes that away. it allows both plugs to ignite at the same time. Ive personally witnessed dynos here in dallas of guys proving they are better on the chargers and magnums. the truth is they actually lost 2 whp over the stock set up. the difference was that they had a cleaner mid range though on the graphs.
my honest opinion is that they are great. engine looks nice and tidy and the throttle FEELS a lot more touchier or sensitive. when i get into it the truck feels like it wants to pull way past the 5800 rpm redline. well worth the money and i think they are cheaper than stock replacments as well (not positive)
your engine will take a few start ups to get it to idle normally as it has to learn that you've changed the ignition up on it.
