with a programmer yes.... i am speaking of some body with no to little mods that has no problem keeping there truck cool..( no cams or adjusted timing) i agree with helopilot if your running SC or some other tune. makes perfect sense but stock calibration has no real need for a t-stat.

I don't see what the argument is considered there are dyno proven gains by running a 180 t-stats when combined with a programer.
i would really like to see a dyno graph of a Stock truck (or close to it) with sc With a180 t-stat and then with sc and the stock t-stat.

helo you had some dynos that were kinda wack a while back. you evere figure out why your AF ratio was like 17;1?

Yeah, their machine was messed up, I ended up just buying a wideband.

There are quite a lot of 5.7 Hemi owners who have replaced the stock 203 thermostat with a 180 replacement that lacks the 'bypass post' extension.

These owners (who were after better acceleration)
don't realize that when they go to full throttle the bypass is not getting closed and their 5.7 Hemi cylinder heads are getting about 70% of the coolant that should be trying to cool them under full power. This means that in a short time (almost instantaneously in hot Summer weather) their knock sensors deep in the 5.7 block are detecting detonation and pulling back ignition timing in a big way to prevent damage. You won't hear this.

If you put in a thermostat without a bypass post,
you should re-think what you did.

The thermostats for the Mazda will work if the outer flange is ground down very slightly

old post below:
---
you're looking for a Mazda MPV or 929 with the V6, year 88-01. (Be sure and
take this info, cause they'll give you a stupid, blank stare when you ask for
a 180 for a Hemi)

Stant #st14168
Valucraft #4168
Failsafe #7303-180
Duralast #15168
Beck/Arnley #143-0712
Gates #33838
NTC #8ah115171b

All those should be the same, with the valve, and need to be ground down just
a hair.

O'Reilly carries the Stant & Gates for sure. Autozone SHOULD carry the
Valucraft & Duralast, but I'd be shocked if they carry toilet paper in their
restrooms at this point. You can find the others around the web on a quick
Google Search.

So, you are saying that the countless HEMI owners who have replaced their stock thermo with a 180 degree thermop are damaging their vehicle? and that they should have put in a low temp thermostat made for a Mazda? I just wanna be clear before I make my final decision.....

If you have any warranty work to do then just swap it out, it is a 5 minute job, then they will never know.

What are you talking about, I was referring to the cam.

J/K

I still have my old cam though, in case I have to have warranty work done. One of the benefits of the 6.1 cam is it does not have as much lope as some of the others so it is difficult for the dealership to tell you have it.

I am still laughing about your response.

"What are you talking about, I was referring to the cam."

You are my hero Helo!
