Default Tail lights

Hello Everyone,

I have a question about mystock tail lights.

I have an'03 1500 QC4x4with a Hemi.

It now has about 45K on it and I've put about a dozen brake/tail light bulbs in it. (8 in the passenger side) Does anyone else have this problem? I take the tail light assembly apart and I can see thatboth fillaments, in the bulb, are still good. I'm finding that the contact part of the bulb and/or the socketis what's giving me a problem. The wire on the bulb is discolored from heat (from a loose/poor connection) and the plastic under the contact wireof the bulb is melted a little. Each time I replace the bulb I clean the contacts in the socket, because they have a little burnt coating on them also.

I was considering a little dielectric grease, but I'm concerned that the contacts would short out with each other causing the wrong fillament to light (meaning the running light instead of brake light, or vice/versa) or just not work at all.

Are my tail light socket assemblies bad from the factory? Or is there a trick that I don't know about.

Thanks for your time!

Mike De

Default RE: Tail lights

I had the same problem its the strip that the 3 bulbs go in, which you can order separately I think it was like 20 bucks. The socket was loose or worn out changed mine about a year ago and fine ever since mine truck is an 03 too.
