Just FYI -- Speed kills mileage, not weight.

I get 17 MPG on a flat, straight freeway going 65 MPH with a stock 2006 Mega Cab 4x2, 3.73 rear, Hemi.

With a 7,000 lbs. trailer (V-nose, 22-foot) loaded with race car and stuff, I get 11 MPG at 55 MPH on the same freeway.

With the same trailer unloaded (3,200 lbs), I get 9.5 MPG at 65 MPH.

If you want to get better mileage when towing, just slow down.

I agree. Just slow down. If you get better gas mileage at 55 than at 65 when you don't have anything in the truck, it'll will be the same when you're towing something. I can get 20mpg in my truck going down the highway at 55-60mph. It drops to 16mpg when I'm doing 70mph

 

hell i can get 19 MPG goin down the highway at 70-75, if i slow down to 60-65 it goes up to about 20-21

 

I know that averaging 95-100 I get 15 mph's solid. but when I drive between 55-75 depends on traffic I get aprox 18.2. depends how many red lights I get.

 

Where in the world can you drive between 90-100mph? Is it expensive to live there? If not I'll move there.

 

I was traveling from Los Angeles to Phoenix on my way back.

 

What's the posted speed limit? I think up in Montana or Wyoming there's recommended speed limits but it's not really enforced too much. So you can drive faster if you want.

 

In montana there arnt speed limits on some roads, or if there are there is noone around to see you so they could care less.

 

MPG has nothing to dop with speed or wheight, RPM's, and shift points that move the whieght most efficanitly are mileage makers or breakers.

I get better highway mileage when I tow with the rpms at 2000 in 6th gear at 60 mph vers 1700 to 1900 Rpms at 50 to 55 mph, I tow a smaller tandom travel trailer under 5000 lbs, my mileage would be better if I had a topper on my truck, thiers verry little diferance in my towing mileage empty on flat roads vers empty.

Once I excead 8000 lbs or so, mileage is not great, I still have no issues with speed or power with my 5.7.

tire size, axle ratios and driver input and reserch will not be the same for every Ram.
